Patten VS WGU Tuition - craigfin - 12-21-2015
Hi, since I am close to completing my BSBA I am looking towards the future, I was looking at these schools and needed to know if someone could answer a question, I know from their website Patten does monthly tuition, but does WGU have one too? As coming up with $3k would be hard right away, and would mean possibly letting some months go by where I could be working on my degree.

I don't know the specifics of the payment plan, but I was able to find this document -- http://www.wgu.edu/wgufiles/how-can-i-pay-personal-page -- which states that, when paying on a payment plan,

This document does not have a date, so I don't know if it reflects the most current policy.
You could also contact WGU directly. They are very responsive to inquiries and will have the most up-to-date information on current policies.

Patten University also has a payment plan and is cheaper than WGU. The all you can eat "buffet" kinda education that Patten offers originally costs $5, 250 per year. But with the tuition discount, you pay $2,388.
At Patten, you don't have to pay anything upfront - you can be enrolled in the payment plan of $199 per month.

That is another issue, kinda of torn on which one to choose, I hear better things about WGU and their is more feedback on them. So I have a better understanding of what to expect from them. And as long as WGU doesn't expect a lump sum upfront payment should not be an issue.
So I am leaning towards WGU, but I will not fully settle on it until I am completely done with my BSBA.

WGU is fine. I have heard so many good things about WGU too. Aside that they don't admit students from outside the United States (with exception of few places), one other reason I didn't go with WGU was because they don't offer letter grades on your transcript. With Patten, I get an A, B, C grade as well as an overall GPA. I heard WGU records your grade in a kind of "competent" or " non competent" format and provides a 3.0 GPA to everyone... And yes, the huge tuition discount was a motivator for me also...

WGU offers financial aid, while Patten does not. I have no experience with Patten's course work. I don't particularly like WGU's grading any pass as a 3.0, but this may not matter to most. I'm not sure of the discounts Patten offers, but at $520 a month that brings tuition to $3120 for 6 months. WGU costs $3,250 per term. I wouldn't let a difference in tuition this small effect my decision. Even with the interest of a student loan for the 6 months (if you financed with student loan then paid equal payments monthly), it would be negligible. In the end I would choose the school I felt fit my situation the best. I had considered patten before choosing WGU. For me, it was basically a coin flip decision.

The last discount I heard about for Patten's graduate programs is $349 per month. For 6 months, that is $2,094, but they don't offer discounts all the time and they do 4-month terms.

When I applied to Patten, the discount wasn't on - at least it wasn't showing on their website. While enquiring about the program, I requested for a discount from the admissions counselor who then applied the discount to my tuition fees. It appears to me that, even when not officially stated, one can always ask for this discount.

Just so you know - Patten is based on WGU's program and, in fact, hired away WGU people to make it happen. I expect they are very similar. I have loved my Patten experience and all except for one of the people I have worked with at Patten. The professors are very responsive.

Can you give me an overview of what the courses contain, similar to what Mednat did here with WGU:
