One simple path - cookderosa - 12-07-2015 I have analysis paralysis in overdrive. I'm trying to inject college credit into my two high school son's high school curriculum- easy, right? No! I'm frustrated beyond belief. There is not one single curriculum/company that we can use for everything - and any company that does offer a lot of options is ACE and isn't accepted in NC community colleges to build an associate degree with. Ugh. I don't know how to turn off the part of my brain that keeps reconfiguring their degree plans instead of their high school diplomas. :ack: One simple path - smrt - 12-07-2015 Nothing useful to add, but let me tell you - I feel your pain. I've changed my degree plan eight times in my head, and that's just today. One simple path - dfrecore - 12-07-2015 Our CC's don't accept ACE credits either. So in talking with my kids, we've decided on dual-enrollment at the local cc, and taking courses like SL to prep us for the actual courses (yes, I'm willing to pay for the SL freshman bundle, with the full knowledge that they won't be able to use a single credit towards their degrees). It's a major bummer, having all this fantastic knowledge but not being able to use any of it for my own kids! I think, for today, that I'm going to use Study.com during the spring semester for 2 of the high school classes for my 2 high schoolers. Everything else will stay the same. IF, and that's a huge if, I think it's a good fit for us, I will likely buy the Homeschool co-op special and get a year. That all being said, I'm also willing to leave all that credit on the table- I mean we have to buy curriculum anyway from somewhere, as the subjects are now much more involved, I don't mind buying products, however, I'm very sensitive to crappy products and I'll drop them in a second if they start to feel like hunt and peck robot courses. They only get one k-12 education, so "learning" is ultimately the most important. Sadly, I have never found a curriculum that did exactly what I expected it to do- maybe tht can be my project when I'm an empty nester. lol So, my plan for my 9th grader (today- as for tomorrow who knows) is to do 1 semester and if Study.com is great, then I might let him do an entire BA at TESC while dual enrolling here. Then instead of applying to college for undergrad, he can just go to grad school straight from here. My 11th grader's plan is for a different day. One simple path - dfrecore - 12-08-2015 Plenty of times I have been disappointed with a curriculum purchase! Definitely keep us posted on how study.com is working out, I would do that instead of SL for mine if I got that great price for a year, and it was a great resource. With all the reading I have had to do, I LOVE having a video to watch. Haven't used any of it for ACE credit, but i've used quite a bit for general study. They do a good job of presenting material that can be really boring in an interesting way. What is the homeschool co-op discount? |
