Praying for people in Paris. So sad.

In the mid-80s, I was stationed in Germany and often would go to Paris for the day. It surprised me to see gendarmes on street corners with machine guns. The people of Paris have faced this sort of thing before, yet they go on. They're an amazing people.

When I went to Paris after 9/11, I could not believe the kindness shown to me by the residents. As I'd found Parisians were usually reserved with strangers, their reaching out to an American traveler was especially touching. This post is just a small attempt on my part to reach out to them in their hour of grief. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

Very sad. Our exchange student (born in the 90's) was shocked to know that in the US normal citizens could purchase & practice with guns of any kind. Funny how a society's thinking changes just in a decade or so.

How does this have anything to do with a terrorist attack in France?

Unless you mean that those innocent people deserved a chance to defend themselves from the barbarians...I agree with you if that was your point.

Please, can we take the time to mourn the dead before this becomes an issue regarding gun ownership?

It definitely is sad. I learned about it at work and my coworker called it France's version of 9/11. I think I have to agree with his assessment.

Very sad; however, I wish the media would focus on the terrorist attacks that take place in other non-westerns countries just as much as they are focusing on Paris. Two huge terrorist attacks happened a week ago by Isis linked terrorist groups killing more individuals than the number that was killed in Paris, and the western media made little to no mention of it.

Exfactor, you're right. I was thinking that it may be because many Americans feel like they have more of a link with Paris and France than they do with these other countries. Of course, since no (wo)man is an island, the loss in those other countries should touch us just as much. The American media just reports on the news that we want to hear.
