ALEKS credits at Excelsior for a business degree? - HorseManiac - 09-08-2015 Hi guys! I haven't been on in awhile, but I'm trying to help my sister with her ASBA from Excelsior and I have looked high and low and I can't seem to figure out what credits from ALEKS that Excelsior will accept for a business degree. If someone could give me some feedback, I'd appreciate it! From what I can tell, they will accept Beg. Algebra, but the other courses duplicate?!?! She's going to take Intro. to Stats to fulfill the statistics requirement, but I'm confused on what she can use to fulfill the math because she has to have Pre-Calculus or higher. Thanks so much! She started on Beginning Algebra, but I'm not sure whether to have her work through the other courses to use as electives or just do them for review and then go to Pre-calculus. Any suggestions? I applied to Excelsior about 2 weeks ago and I'm still waiting on my evaluation. As soon as they send it I will be happy to let you know how they apply them to my degree program ALEKS credits at Excelsior for a business degree? - Exfactor - 09-10-2015 The different schools within Excelsior College operates differently from the school of liberal arts in regard to credit acceptances. However, within the school of liberal arts I received credit for college algebra, intro to stats, pre-calculus (dean approval) and trigonometry. In the school of liberal arts college algebra, college algebra with trigonometry, intermediate algebra and pre-calculus duplicate each other. However, I was able to get credit for pre-calculus by disputing it with the dean who approved all my Aleks credits. There probably isn't anyway to find out how the business school would apply them without being enrolled, huh? When they say that college algebra and pre-calculus duplicate, does that mean that if she took both of those classes, that they would only give her credit for college algebra and she wouldn't meet the pre-calculus requirement or would they use the pre-calculus and just not give her credit for college algebra? Sorry if that was confusing! lol Just trying to get it all straight in my head! I asked if they could tell me how a few classes im taking at penn foster would apply and the admissions counselor said only an advisor could tell me about how courses would apply once I'm enrolled. Yes! They will only give you credit for one. ALEKS credits at Excelsior for a business degree? - HorseManiac - 09-11-2015 Exfactor Wrote:Yes! They will only give you credit for one. So, could she take college algebra and since it duplicates with pre-calculus, get credit for pre-calculus? Or would she actually have to take the pre-calculus class? Would there be a problem with her taking all the ALEKS courses so that they're on her transcript? Even though she'd only end up getting credit for the one class. Or would she actually have to take the pre-calculus class? No. If they assigned college algebra she will not get credit for pre-calculus. She would need a calculus course to get credit for calculus. Excelsior considers such courses to overlap, so you can only get credit for one. If she took college algebra and pre-calculus with Aleks she would only get credit for only one of the courses. Since the college considers them to duplicate. After you enroll you have 30 days to remove credits if you want, so if the college used college algebra she could contact her advisor to use pre-calculus instead. This is what I was told by the Director of Advising Operations for the School of Liberal Arts: "In response to the duplication on your file between ALEKS College Algebra and Pre-Calculus, the Liberal Arts Math Program Director, Margie Dunn, re-reviewed the ALEKS College Algebra and the ALEKS Pre-Calculus courses and determined that they do still duplicate. Students can only have credit for one of these ALEKS options." HorseManiac Wrote:Would there be a problem with her taking all the ALEKS courses so that they're on her transcript? If the college considers them to be relevant to her degree they will add them to her transcript, if they don't they possibly could add them below the degree line on her transcript if she wants to their. |
