Are you in the 1%? - Prloko - 08-19-2015 This article is a bit dated (2012), but with inflation being minimal the past few years, the numbers will still be pretty close. We hear/read stories constantly about the 1%. Who's in the 1%? Where are you? This interactive map will show you where your household stacks up against the nation or you can even click the map to see where you stack up against your geographic area. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2012/01/15/business/one-percent-map.html?_r=0 Here's is a similar site (I'm sure there are many more). http://www.whatsmypercent.com/ Are you in the 1%? - Lindagerr - 08-19-2015 Wow things change from area to area. What will put you in the 1% in most of the country will only put you in 3-5% the NY/NJ metro area. No wonder I was always broke. What we were bringing in in 2012 would only put us slightly into the top 50% there. Are you in the 1%? - Prloko - 08-20-2015 Same for me. I'm in the top 47% where I live, but 25% nationally. ![]() Are you in the 1%? - LaterBloomer - 08-20-2015 Well, if I were the type who would want to move when I retire, it gives me a good idea of where my retirement dollars would go further. Other than that, it depresses the heck out of me! Kidding, I'm trying - and I think succeeding - in developing the attitude that it's not how much money you have that matters, or determines if your successful. This is 100% true. I haven't noticed any correlation with my personal happiness and making more money. Happiness is an internal state of being that no material object can fill. I am happy because I have people around me to share my happiness with, the stuff around me does nothing but collect dust. Are you in the 1%? - Lindagerr - 08-20-2015 As the saying goes money can't buy happiness. But it sure helps. I have had times if you asked me what I wanted for Christmas or other special days I would say I don't need anything, but if I feel I can help my family or good friends if they hit a hard spot that brings me happiness. On the other hand I do know people with more than comfortable finances who have very little happiness in their life. Are you in the 1%? - cookderosa - 08-20-2015 we are at 46% and my husband is currently earning the most salary he has EVER earned. I feel like we have plenty. I know people who earn a LOT more than us and are always broke, so.... I also think it's all relative to what you spend, I am a mega-tightwad super-budgeting extreme-coupon cash-only ninja. I'm having a t-shirt made. ![]() Are you in the 1%? - cookderosa - 08-20-2015 Prloko Wrote:This article is a bit dated (2012), but with inflation being minimal the past few years, the numbers will still be pretty close.
