Need Help from Some Old Members - Home Schoolers etc about teens testing & Degrees - marianne202 - 07-03-2015 So a while back, there were several Mom's here who had teens testing out and completing degrees while still in high school. I now have a daughter who wants to pursue that path to obtain a utilitarian degree. Her true passion is art and we plan to enroll her in an art school as a transfer student. I'm insisting she needs to get a practical degree first to avoid becoming a starving artist with huge student loans to pay! She wants to get a degree in criminal psychology or criminal justice - something along those lines. She love psychology and is very smart, so testing out should be straightforward for her. She will have a very light load next year as a senior and she wants to start taking some exams now. I know we had a few Mom's who kids pursued this type of path and I'm wondering if you have any suggestions on schools or testing order? I'm sure she can't actually enroll in a college until she has her HS diploma, but she is in National Honor Society and is ranked in the top 8 of her class, so her Principal would sign paperwork to allow dual enrollment if the college allows it. I'm hoping some of the old timers who have been down this road are still here and can offer some suggestions. Thanks in advance for your help! Remember schools are not so nice about giving scholarship money for second degrees. Meaning if she seeks an art degree after. Also COSC has a degree in studio art. She could transfer her art credits into that degree if need be. TESC also has an art degree. She could do one than the other. Remember art is all about self promotion and your portfolio and capabilities. You need not to starve as an artist. You need to be realistic about your goals. I believe what artist really need is marketing and business back ground so they can reach their full potential. As far as testing out. Your kid is smart and capable like her Mom. You are her biggest asset. I also think she should get her gen eds going first. No point in doing the AA/AS over TESC since they're not going to accept any exam credit besides CLEP. Let me know if you need more direction for Career and College Promise, I'm on my 2nd child going through it. Career & College Promise | NC Community Colleges |
