For anyone looking at Torah College Credits to fulfill the information literacy requirement at Excelsior, here is a link to the video course.

I don't think it is a complicated topic and I've read here that people have breezed through the material at Penn Foster and at Excelsior. This is a two-credit exam that normally costs $135 + registration and $25 exam fee. With the summer discount code (summer50), the registration fee is waived and you get $50 off so that comes to $110 for 2 credits.

Comparing this to the Information Literacy class at Penn Foster:
  • Penn Foster's class is only $79 because it's a 1-credit class and that's all that's required for Excelsior
  • The Torah College Credits exam is less per credit but the overall cost is more because of the proctor fee and the fact that it's a two-credit exam.
  • I don't know which route is faster/easier so perhaps others who have dealt with Penn Foster can chime in.
  • Penn Foster's information literacy class is ACE-approved and Torah College Credits' exam is NCCRS-approved. I have worked with both NCCRS and ACE and have had no issues.

I highly recommend the TCC route.
I like how it's just one proctored exam and you're done. Sign up isn't bad since the communication responses are very quick.

I just received a message from Excelsiors advisors stating that they don't accept Penn Foster Information Literacy anymore.... did this change happen within 2 months?

They told this to me 6 months ago.

This requirement is so dumb. It only takes about 3 hours to complete. I don't know why they are so picky about where an individual fulfills this requirement.

It seems like these schools are becoming more and more picky.

I took the Excelsior version of this because the company I work for paid for it. I started on a Monday by reading about half of everything, and if I had to click away to something and read that too I only read about half of that too. When I went to work the next day I watched all of the videos for the course before work started because we had dial-up at the time. When I got home I started to review, but it seemed so damned easy I decided to go ahead and take the final and passed before I reached the 24 hour mark of when I started.
