Excelsior Changes to General Business Degree 7-1-2015 - Toastmaster - 06-09-2015

Hey all!

Just dropping a quick note from my Admissions Counselor regarding some upcoming changes. Apparently the classes/exams
Bussiness Communications, International Business, and Quantitative Analysis will become requirements of the degree on 7-1-2015.

Also, the Capstone will be changing from a 3 credit 8 week capstone to a 6 credit 15 week capstone.

Note, I have not verfied with any Excelsior *print* information, but the above was told to me today. (they called me to say that I was admitted to the school)

So enroll before July 1st those of you who are thinking about this degree.

A 6-credit capstone? Whyyyyyyyy? That's going to cost $2940.

There distancing themselves away from the other Big 3 schools who are becoming more like diploma mills, like Kitten Mitten once stated, by allowing all types of outside credit to fulfill degree requirements. :hurray:

Excelsior College is not as good as Regents College was and both are not as good as USNY was!

Considering the fact that some of us are not that old to remember or know... Excelsior is doing just fine.

I'm confused
are you saying COSC and TESC are becoming more like diploma mills because allowing all types of outside credit to fulfill degree requirements ?

Excelsior gives credit for Statistics.com - Course Catalog ACE courses , no questions asked

TESC wants to review the courses before accepting them for credit

Excelsior gives programming and math credit for "courses" completed at Game Programming - How to Program Video Games | GameInstitute
I don't think TESC of COSC will do that

it sees like Excelsior will accept credit from just about anybody -- which I'm fine with because I'm enrolled there for a BS in Psychology

but if I were starting now, they would be the last place I would choose

the graph doesn't really mean anything
I'm sure UoP could post big numbers too

I've done most of my credits by exam

I've attempted 2 online courses through Excelsior
1) Introduction to Health Care Informatics
2) Research for Evidence Based Practice
and they were a complete waste

the teachers were not qualified to be teaching the courses and the the majority of other students weren't even qualified to be in high school course much less a university course

try doing a group paper with someone who literally LITERALLY copied his sections word for word from the book and contributed no original argument or conclusion

argh, this has gotten way off topic

How do you know there is not some regulation by their accreditation agency to project this change? Just because one school makes changes to degree requirements does not mean the next school does the same. The school of liberal arts, school of nursing, school of business at EC operate totally different in regard to what credit they will accept, and what changes to degrees take place; for example, one school will except a specific exam/credit while another school considers such credit as not fulfilling a requirment. I stated on this forum a while back that Excelsior was in the process of changing their business degree program, as they are also about to start a new BSBA program which can be completed by CBE. So to project that EC is in someway shape or form becoming similar to the UoP is "reaching." There is nothing similar about the UoP and Excelsior college besides the fact that both offer courses online.

It doesn't mean anything according to who? For Excelsior to be such garbage, they surely have a great number of students enroll, enrolled in courses, taking exams, along with an awesome number of course completions, and student satisfaction. Almost everyone complains about group projects, especially if they are completed online. You can read this very forum about that, from non-Excelsior students. And just because you feel that someone is not doing college level work, or that a professor should not be teaching does not mean it's actually true, just like you stated that graph meant nothing, so does your opinion in regard to the "inadequacy" of others. Also plagiarism occurs on all college campuses. However, if you feel that way why not leave EC and enroll at another school? Confusedeeya:
