TESC Financial and Managerial Accounting. CLEP, SL, or combination? - thornoak - 05-14-2015

Hi all,

I'm currently pursuing my BSBA in Marketing from TESC. I've got my degree plan pretty well figured out, but I'm revisiting the Financial and Managerial Accounting requirements.

My plan was originally to take the Financial Accounting CLEP and Account II from Straighterline. But I have some concerns and questions.

My main concern is that study for and taking the Financial Accounting CLEP would not properly prepare me for SL's Accounting II. I'd hate to take the CLEP and then realize that I was in over my head after registering with SL. One option would be to take Accounting I & II with SL, but that wouldn't be as time/cost efficient. Has anyone tried the CLEP + SL approach that could recommend it?

I did notice that SL offers a specific Managerial Accounting course. Should I take that instead and would TESC accept that for Managerial Accounting? I read on one thread that they place it as Cost Accounting, which wouldn't do me any good.

Thanks!

I posted too soon. Looks like Managerial Accounting with SL is definitely transferred as Cost Accounting so that's out.

Penn and Foster is also an option for filling the Managerial Accounting requirement. Would anyone recommend that over SL?

SL Accounting I-ACC101 is equivalent to TESC Principles of Financial Accounting - ACC-101

SL Accounting II-ACC102 is equivalent to TESC Principles of Managerial Accounting - ACC-102

I have no personal experience with the CLEP vs. SL course, but I do know that it could actually save you money if you completed both SL courses within a month. You could pay your one month membership fee of $99 and use a discount code for BOGO for the classes. That is getting two classes for $148 or $74 each. If you wanted, you could get the related textbooks ahead of time so that you were more familiar with the material before your clock started ticking.

Also, search the forums for topics related to these two courses through SL.

Hope this helps!

I completed these through SL because of this savings, as well as not requiring me to visit a testing center. I found the classes to be straight forward.

mednat, How long did each class take to complete and how many hours did you study to complete them?
Also were the finals open book? Thanks in advance.
