DSST - Here's To Your Health - Downgraded to Lower Level - SuZQ2 - 02-12-2015

Hi All,

Don't know if this info has been posted previously, but just thought I'd get the word out there for those thinking about taking the DSST, Here's To Your Health exam for Upper Level credit. According to the DSST site and my Excelsior College Adviser, HTYH has been officially downgraded to Lower Level banghead. I'd been counting on this exam, so I'm back to :ack:..

This exam was evidently downgraded in 2013 - where was I when they pulled the plug????banghead

You have to check the part of the catalog that Excelsior has to figure out what credit you get for each exam. Excelsior doesn't automatically use what DSST says.

Hi Denise,

In the EC catalog HYTH is still listed as UL credit, but according to my adviser EC no longer accepts it as such...I asked (begged, pleadedSad) for him to check again - no luck from him - he said as DSST lists it as LL it's LL. Should I call another department at EC to get it confirmed?

Unbeknownst to me, I was bumped from my original adviser who was very knowledgeable and pro-active (emails, call-backs, etc.) to a new adviser...It took 2 days of calling EC to finally reach him by phone...

Has anyone taken this exam for UL credit at EC after January 2013, if so, who approved the UL credit??

Yes, challenge it if they still list it in the catalog - take a screen shot and send it too.

The most recent catalog that I downloaded a few weeks ago lists DSST's as 2013 page 29 which seems to mean that the catalog is out of date. In divine favor had problems with the DSST section during evaluation a few weeks ago which makes me lean towards the idea that the catalog is out of date and someone needs to take action. taking a screen shot or sending the pdf to the advisor and requesting a second opinion based on their published catalog might be worth a try. You could always ask the advisor the process for appealing to the dean based on their published acceptance policy. That's if we have a new dean yet?

Yes, I noticed the 2013 catalog date also and mentioned it to my advisor. He said it was indeed out-of-date (uhhh, but they haven't updated the catalog or the info???) and the new DSST listing is now EC's policy...I'm still wondering if any EC students have received UL credit for this course after 2013 - if so, I'd think they'd have to consider keeping HTYH's UL status for now, anyway.

I took the test a couple years ago. Still working on degree. Hopefully grandfathered in its original UL credit form?

If it really is in the college catalog, and you are enrolled, they have to honor the catalog that was in effect when you enrolled. For instance, if they stopped taking CLEP tomorrow, that would only matter to people not yet enrolled. HTH

I haven't taken this DSST, but looking at the practice questions, I understand why they decided to downgrade it. The material doesn't look like things you'd cover in an upper-level college class - it's only a little more advanced than a typical high school health class. That said, it would be disappointing news if you were counting on this DSST for upper-level credit.
