Phew- finished with ALEKS. - geissingert - 01-08-2015 My kids finished with ALEKS> They finished STATISTICS, which was a hard class. They used several Youtube videos to help with the class. Phew- finished with ALEKS. - LaterBloomer - 01-08-2015 I hate your kids. That was a hard course. When I tried it on ALEKS, I got no where. I ended up taking it from PF (2 times!), and only passed because I realized I could take each quiz/test two times. Otherwise, I would still be trying to knock out that course. Phew- finished with ALEKS. - SwaggyP - 01-08-2015 Aleks Stats is absurdly difficult. I breezed through College Algebra; Intermediate Algebra was a little more challenging, which was odd, but still doable, finished that within the day. Now I've been working on Stats for 2 weeks and getting nowhere. Decided to take a break from Stats, and miraculously knocked out PreCalc on the initial assessment (For those considering Aleks, definitely attempt PreCalc after you finish College Algebra, it is probably easier then Intermediate Algebra and definitely easier than Stats IMO). Congrats to those kids of yours who had the perseverance to make it through, Aleks is definitely not a gimme. Now back to Stats, at this point I'm questioning my resolve and probably will be researching other options soon. Phew- finished with ALEKS. - dfrecore - 01-08-2015 I breezed through Beginning Alg & Intermediate, then got stuck on College! Tried switching to Stats, impossibly hard. So I guess everyone has a totally different experience. I have to take College Algebra and Stats as TECEP's to get 2 of my 8 courses in, but I'm going back onto ALEKS starting this week to try to buckle down and get through College Algebra again, then Precalc, then Stats. I will only transfer Precalc over to ACE, just using College Alg & Stats as practice for the TECEP's. Maybe this time it'll be easier!?! Haha! Phew- finished with ALEKS. - Christopher - 01-08-2015 Stats is just hard, period. Especially when trying to self-teach. Don't hit your head over it. Math is tough for a lot of people including myself. I hate it when some individuals (no on here) or school admins think because you aren't Mr. Math or Miss Science that you shouldn't even be in college. I knew someone that said if you can't do or dont want to do Algebra or STEM courses than you should not go to college because college isn't for you. I use to call her BS on that. Many majors don't require math or only the general algebra level of math. dfrecore Wrote:I breezed through Beginning Alg & Intermediate, then got stuck on College! It's the incredibly confusing jargon and the unneeded probability concepts that create so much trouble. Couple these concept issues with the ridiculous expectation by the student who "feels" that they should be able to conquer any subject with either ease or a small time investment, then yes, stats becomes impossibly hard. For self teach try these free resources: Statistical Reasoning | Open Learning Initiative for self guided or this https://www.coursera.org/course/statistics MOOC beginning March 2. Then for credit use ALEKS assessment, or the DSST CBE, or Excelsior ECE for graded credit.
