I thought some of you might be planning to see the movie Class Dismissed. I'm going on Tuesday to our town's screening which will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers! I'm pretty excited. If you watch the trailer, you'll see it's essentially a homeschool movie, but I think it's also a movie that asks you to look hard at what it means to earn an education. A perfect topic for members here. CLEP testing, distance learning, etc. are nothing more than homeschooling for grown ups. hilarious

I haven't seen the movie yet, but this is one of the few times I've seen someone complain about the amount of homework. I often hear Boomers and X-ers talk about how much more they were expected to do. Maybe it has more to do about the quality of the work or the amount of work that is accomplished in the classroom vs. what is sent home. When K-12 schools and even colleges see that their students are struggling on tests, their solution is often to assign more busy work. As some of you might know, I absolutely abhor busy work. If students are performing poorly, they need more time in tutoring, not more worksheets on which they still don't know what they're doing. It does nothing but eat up valuable time.
