Kaplan Open College - chorizo - 10-04-2014 So Kaplan Open College has a bunch of new courses listed,
https://opencollege.kaplan.com/opencollege/
Does anybody know if these give college credit or how they work in general (besides for self improvement of course) Thanks Kaplan Open College - KayV - 10-04-2014 Of course it might change, but at the moment, the only course they have listed through ACE is the PLA one, for 3 lower-level general ed credits. ACE CREDIT | The National Guide to College Credit for Workforce Training Kaplan Open College - laughter - 10-04-2014 Does anyone know how much it will cost to get credit for the other non-ACE recommended courses? It sounds like you pay an assessment fee of $100 or so to get it evaluated for credits by Kaplan University... is that right? How does it work? It sounds like you pay an assessment fee of $100 or so to get it evaluated for credits by Kaplan University... is that right? How does it work? I'm confused about your question. There are ACE evaluated courses (which you can't pay to have evaluated, ACE decides that after the institution/business enters into a relationship with ACE) and then Kaplan the school can award credit within their school. As for how much they'd charge, I'm not sure. Kaplan Open College - laughter - 10-06-2014 Oh, I was referring to the list of courses they offer here >> https://opencollege.kaplan.com/opencollege/ Only one of those courses have been evaluated by ACE, however, it sounds like it's possible to get Kaplan college credits for the other courses. At least that's what it sounds like from the English Composition I course. Kaplan Open College - cookderosa - 10-06-2014 Ohhhhhh okay. Humm, well if you wouldn't mind, I'd love for you to share what you find if you get an answer back from Kaplan. That might be useful to lots of folks here.
Kaplan Open College - laughter - 10-06-2014 Yup, I've tried contacting them... but for some reason my communication is one-way. :/ Either they're not receiving my messages, or I'm not receiving theirs. The only time I've had a two-way communication was by chatting with technical support, even then, I couldn't get all the answers I was looking for....If it's really $100 per assessment, I think it'd be quite a good alternative to consider.
Kaplan Open College - Prloko - 10-07-2014 All these courses seem to be designed as feeders tp lock you into Kaplan college. The psych course seems like a marketing tool disguised in a Psych 101 course. Far fetched, perhaps, but I wouldn't put it passed these For Profits, just like how they are now all offering discounts disguised as "scholarships". Maybe the local furniture store will offer me a "scholarship" on the new sofa I want to buy. Kaplan Open College - SteveFoerster - 10-07-2014 If it makes you feel better, non-profits and publics also "disguise" discounts as scholarships, since that's essentially what a scholarship is. |
