TESC Residency - besh4u - 09-07-2014 Can someone please explain to me how the residency requirements work? Am I required to take their courses or can I take DSST Clep and straightline courses to earn a liberal arts bachelor degree? Thank you TESC Residency - cooperalex2004 - 09-07-2014 besh4u Wrote:Can someone please explain to me how the residency requirements work? Thank you If you pay for the enrolled options plan (Thomas Edison State College: Enrolled Options Plan) then you can transfer in your credits and not have a residency requirement. The key is to look at things like the cap on certain credits (like community colleges which have a limit) while also looking at things like the BA capstone which you'd need to take at TESC for a liberal arts degree (BA in Liberal Studies Degree at Thomas Edison State College). If you search around this site you'll find that you can find options to transfer in 117/120 credits for the BA in Liberal Studies (along with several other BA degrees) and just have to take the capstone. Many people on this site have/will be completing the BSBA which is another option that allows for you to transfer in most/all of the credits depending on sources utilized. The options for TESC's enrollment plans are here: Thomas Edison State College: Selecting the Right Tuition Plan TESC Residency - besh4u - 09-07-2014 That was my plan for 117/120 with a capstone. I was told by tesc I needed to follow their residency requirements. I planned on doing SL for upper level credits and dsst and cleps. I just want to know I can go forward with my plan and be able to earn a bachelor degree from tesc in liberal arts that way. You can but need to stay within the enrolled options route and pay the associated fees. If you utilize their per credit plan you must complete a residency requirement. Once you are within a year of graduation my best advice is to send in all of your exams and get things in writing. You'll have things pre-approved and then be locked into an enrollment year that provides security from policy changes. You'd then take the capstone during this period as well. TESC Residency - besh4u - 09-07-2014 I am only 24 credits away from graduating and at SL these are upper level to tesc. Business communications Organizational behavior Cost accounting Business ethics World religions Microbiology Principles of management Using them and taking the capstone course I should be good to go. I am also finalizing my FINRA licensing so I will be able to get any extra credits needed that way. But I am currently a student at Excelsior and I think its safer to stay there but will take me longer to graduate. At tesc I feel I could graduate by dec if they allow me to take the capstone class by utilizing SL. Does that sounds right? Business communications You won't graduate by December if you haven't entered the system yet. TESC is great but will take several weeks to get things moving and then you have to complete the capstone course before you can apply for graduation. If you took the capstone starting in October or November then you could apply for March graduation (according to Thomas Edison State College: Graduation Information). I'm not a SL expert so someone else can probably help you more if you decide to go the TESC route. TESC Residency - besh4u - 09-07-2014 I have already applied and been accepted and they did an academic evaluation. I think I can finish SL courses fairly fast and take dsst and cleps for the other courses. Maybe jan is more realistic? Watch out for the deadline dates for each of those certification months. TESC Residency - besh4u - 09-07-2014 As long as they say I am good to go I am not worried. If I was able to get 120 credits and be good to graduate it wouldn't bother me any. I just don't want to take the time to do the SL courses and then have something change. Doing those courses you think I would be good to go? TESC Residency - cooperalex2004 - 09-07-2014 besh4u Wrote:As long as they say I am good to go I am not worried. Doing those courses you think I would be good to go? Should be as long as the courses fit. TESC usually updates policies in July but as I said the best way to set things in stone is to enroll and plan in the remaining courses. You get the college to pre-approve the courses and they show up on your degree audit pending transfer. I don't expect SL to not be accepted but things do happen as many have seen with expired ACE courses and things like FEMA courses no longer being accepted. |
