Excelsior's Policy regarding SL Credits? - Saharapost - 08-21-2014

Hi everyone:

I have been reading conflicting "reports" on this forum regarding how Excelsior College treats Straighterline credits when it comes to assigning letter grades to them. While some say that EC will never assign letter grades to SL courses, others swore that their SL credits were accepted by EC and assigned letter grades. Some of these information date back to 2012.

Does anyone know the latest EC "policy" regarding SL credits- especially as it relates to assigning letter grades to them or not.

EDIT: If EC assigns letter grades to SL credits, wouldn't it be safe to assume that they'll assign letter grades to Saylor credits as well?

I appreciate all info.

Thanks

It's not safe to so assume. I can't speak to the rest of your (great) question.

If the Saylor transcript doesn't come with a score, then it would be impossible for Excelsior to assign a grade. I've never seen a Saylor transcript, so I wouldn't know if the scores are on there. I could never remember if it was COSC or EC that assigned grades to Straighterline courses. The only way that can be done is to have the scores sent directly from Straighterline. The ACE transcript will not have scores.

I have an official Saylor transcript. Saylor transcripts come with numerical grades, not letter grades. It looks like the one in the attached image.

Me too, those are GPA bursters.Smile EDIT: I took just one Marketing course at Saylor and scored a 78%. Would have loved to have it "lettered" if I got an 80.

Av been on hold (on phone) with Excelsior staff, trying to find out about Saylor credits and how they are transcribed. Seems everyone has to check it up with someone else. I have been transferred to two people so far.

EDIT: No one seems to know/understand how they are being transcribed on the final transcript. They took down my email and promised to follow up on that for me, and once they get info from one other person, they'll write. Really, not safe to assume. Smile

So, I got a final response from EC regarding Saylor credits.

Quote:Good afternoon SaharaPost,

It was a pleasure speaking with you earlier today! Thank you for your
patience while we looked into your question. Saylor courses are converted
to a P grade for passing. This is not used when calculating the GPA.

I hope this information was helpful. Please let me know if you have any
additional questions. Have a great day!
