ALEKS Statistics Is Very Humbling - JTP - 08-12-2014 Almost 44 hours later I FINALLY got over a 70% in ALEKS Intro to Stats. I've taken Calculus, and DifEq and while those were tough subjects they still "clicked" and made sense. Both accounting and stats just don't make sense to me. I finished College Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, and Precalc all in about 6 hours collectively through ALEKS. Silly me thought Stats would be a breeze too, even though I have never had a full on stats class. I made the really dumb mistake of not taking the first assessment seriously and just clicked through most of it thinking I could look at the explanations and ace the 2nd assessment. Having only needed 2-3 assessments on all other subjects I didn't realize you can only increase your proficiency percentage incrementally so it took me 20+ assessments to get there. After all of those I could now calculate for you the average increase between assessments along with the standard deviation for the whole population, maybe throw in some z scores and t distributions...but I don't ever want to do another statistics problem as long as I live!!! Am feeling your pain .... working my way through it slowly too ... congratulations on getting there ALEKS Statistics Is Very Humbling - JTP - 08-12-2014 Half way through I started printing the explanations as PDFs instead of physical copies. Combining them all into one searchable PDF made finding like problems A LOT easier! Hmmm, seems something was hinky with your software (it happened to me once). You needed a hard reset. Each assessment should have been a reset, although you would have been presented with new problems, questions asked differently, maybe even a few from different areas but it would not have been what you are describing. Anyhow, Congratulations you're done! And you've learned the subject matter thoroughly. The only problem is if you don't continually use it, like a new language, you begin to lose your newly acquired skills. At least that has been a problem for me and it sucks. I know you said you are done but if I may? Why not hop on over to Saylor.org, they offer Business Stats, and do a quick run through of the free courseware, take the cheap final exam and tack on what others have said transfers as upper level credit OPM-351. Look under business electives for the statistics course equivalency. I took business stats with Aleks while it was still considered non dupl UL credit so I don't have actual experience with this course. From what I've read here there is a practice final that is basically a certificate earned freebie, that is not awarded credit. And there is a second proctored exam which for a fee of $25 you earn 3CR (NCCRS Credit Recommended Exam). I think it would be worthwhile to at least look at Saylor while the foundation material is still fresh in your mind. ALEKS Statistics Is Very Humbling - LaterBloomer - 08-12-2014 Congratulations for sticking to it an succeeding. It is tough. ALEKS Statistics Is Very Humbling - JTP - 08-12-2014 Thanks @bricabrac I'll look into it that course. I don't really need any upper level business credits, but if it's not too difficult it can't hurt. @LaterBloomer are you still working on statistics? It is such a pain! ALEKS Statistics Is Very Humbling - cookderosa - 08-12-2014 yeah! That's awesome. I wonder what the probability of you never doing another stats problem as long as you live is? Hummmm lol ALEKS Statistics Is Very Humbling - smf6824 - 08-12-2014 Congrats. I tried multiple times before I gave up and just did business stats through straighterline. So I am truly humbled by Aleks statistics. ALEKS Statistics Is Very Humbling - bricabrac - 08-13-2014 JTP Wrote:Thanks @bricabrac I'll look into it that course. As such I wondered if it would fit into your Area of Study, in the program description it stated industrial training. I just did a "what if" and unfortunately it does not, so don't bother. Take care! I appreciate you looking into that for me....Cant say my feelings are too hurt to not have to touch statistics again for a while though! :willynilly: |
