Degree plan (help, please!) - Golfball - 08-04-2014

Hello all,

First, any help or advice is appreciated. This forum is a wonderful tool.

I am currently attending a B&M university, but plan to transfer everything to TESC with the hopes of finishing a degree by April of next year. I have made a list of courses that I have taken for credit since applying to TESC (so I am unsure of where they could be applied), as well as my current academic plan. I know that I am pretty close to a degree. I don't want to make any registration mistakes before deadlines this month. Does anyone see a way in which I could be crafty and finish my degree by April? I am hoping someone has some insight, or sees an obvious route to a degree.

Courses that I have taken (but haven't sent to TESC yet):
 1. 201: Concepts and Applications of IT (UMUC)
 2. 304: Ethics in IT (UMUC)
 3. SL Nutrition
 4. SL Business Statistics
 5. 150 level Philosophy course (local B&M university)
 6. 250 level Social justice/world religion course (local B&M university)
 7. WRTG 101 Introduction to Writing (UMUC)
 8. I was also planning to take "Comparative Government" at Saylor, after hearing about their articulation agreement with TESC.

Courses that I am registered for at the local B&M this semester:

Macroeconomics

200 level International Politics

300 level Constitutional Law

200 level Political Theory

100 level US Government
Below is my current academic plan. Courses that are "C=Complete" were removed for brevity.

================================================================================
I) 2: BA Liberal Studies (30 SH)
Complete both subrequirements:

> different areas must be included within the entire > Concentration to provide breadth of knowledge in the > Liberal Studies Area.

N) 3: Liberal Arts Capstone (3 SH) LIB-495 Liberal Arts Capstone________ 1 course needed

Does this look like a decent plan, or am I missing something important? If I could be to the point where I only need to take 3-6 SL or TESC courses and a capstone, I would be very happy!

Welcome! Which other classes have you taken (so as not to suggest a class you've already taken)?

Degree plan (help, please!) - KayV - 08-05-2014

Using the credits you have listed:
ENC-101 ___ 3 credits needed WRTG 101 Introduction to Writing (UMUC)
ENC-102 (Writing Intensive) __ 3 credits needed TECEP English Composition II
Math _____ 3 credits needed TECEP Applied Liberal Arts Math
Intellectual and Practical Skills __ 6 credits 201: Concepts and Applications of IT (UMUC) and TECEP Technical Writing
Diversity or Global Literacy ____ 3 credits needed 250 level Social justice/world religion course
Responsible Ethical Leadership ___ 3 credits needed 304: Ethics in IT (UMUC)
Personal and Social Responsibility Elective ____ 3 credits needed 200 level International Politics
Humanities ________ 2 credits needed 150 level Philosophy course (local B&M university)
D: General Ed Electives____ 18 credits needed SL Business Statistics (counts as STA-150), Macroeconomics, SL Nutrition, 200 level Political Theory, any 2 Gen Ed TECEPs
Liberal Stud (15 SH) 100 level._ 3 credits needed 100 level US Government
Upper Level (15 SH) _______ 3 credits needed 300 level Constitutional Law
Liberal Arts Capstone (3 SH) LIB-495 Liberal Arts Capstone________ 1 course needed from TESC
You would need 2 more TECEPs to be eligible for the Pay Per Credit tuition plan, which means you wouldn’t pay enrollment fees. The easiest way to do this would be to replace any 2 of Macroeconomics, US Government, or Political Theory (since you haven’t taken these yet) with 2 TECEPs.
Make sure that you have at least one other subject area in liberal studies beyond social science.
Also, if you are looking to think outside the box, you might be a very good candidate for a 90-credit BGS in Arts and Science from Athabasca University, which is Canada’s version of the Big Three. It does not require a Capstone, and total cost is about $1200 USD if you are bringing in all your credits. PM me if you’d like more information.
