I plan on graduating from both COSC and Excelsior and I was wondering how FEMA looks like when you transfer it in to COSC raw and can I purchase the credit bank feature and pass/wash those credits to EC?

I don't want to pay FCC $240 when it costs me that much to take a course now.

That's an interesting question.

I agree, that is an interesting question. My best guess, is that if you use a COSC credit bank you'll hit a brick wall at EC. If you use a COSC transcript, you might get a transfer. Credit banks are not original sources of credit, so that's an easy out, but it might be interesting to see what they do with it on a transcript. If I were a betting woman playing odds, my money would be on a 100% chance of not making it to EC off of a COSC credit bank, but maybe 75% chance of not making it to EC off the COSC transcript....so maybe 25% chance that it would transfer. That's better than 0, and I think there might be a few variables that could change my answer- all depending on how COSC handled the incoming credit and how they transcribed it. If you're doing FEMA anyway, and attending COSC for a degree anyway, it's worth trying imo. Of course, please report back how it actually plays out!

COSC transcripts include a heading with the word "Transfer," and an "Organization:" subheading, over top of any credit from outside sources.

This applies to the "unofficial," student copies of transcripts I've seen, and I haven't seen FEMA credit specifically on a COSC transcript with my own eyes. But I expect it would apply to "official" copies of transcripts sent between schools, and I'm sure they wouldn't treat FEMA credit substantially differently than they treat credit from other outside sources.

I wonder why Excelsior has this rule of accepting FEMA credits from FCC when they know they are FEMA credits. Is it because FCC launders them, thus, keeping Middle States off of Excelsior's back? I always thought there was an accreditation issue that caused TESC to stop accepting FEMA.

I don't see how it could be an accreditation issue, since FCC, TESC, and Excelsior are all accredited by Middle States...I mean, I'd think the accrediting commission would have more of an issue with what FCC is doing with FEMA courses, as opposed to TESC or Excelsior.

On an interesting side note, COSC is accredited by the New England Association...

I think if FEMA would (or could) spend a little money with ACE, they'd be much more widely accepted.

FCC does have the same accreditor, but it's also the only formally authorized converter of FEMA credits

Maybe Middle States will catch up with FCC and put a stop to the FEMA credit laundering when the re-accreditation team comes in 2016.

This is why I thought it might slip in under COSC at EC, but there are too many variables. For instance, I wonder if FCC's ability to launder FEMA might be due to them specifically offering an Emergency Management degree, which is an AAS? There is always a reason, it's just that this specific question hasn't been tested here (I don't think) yet.
