Here is what my testing center informed me as it relates to calculators:

Larry,

We will provide you with a very basic solar non-programmable calculator (sharp elsi mate EL – 334F) as we have done in the past.

Students are not allowed to use their own to avoid insistencies. By using the calculators we have always provided, there is assurance that all DSST exams that allow a calculator to be used are being proctored the same way for everyone.

If I can assist further, feel free to let me know.

This seems very odd to me. The calculator they want me to use, I can not find. It is not on Amazon. This seems odd that you can not use a calculator with the Standard Deviation button, Present Value, Future Value, etc. These calculators are used and allowed when testing in a traditional school.

Can you use a different testing center? The only thing the exam fact sheet states is that you will be allowed a non-programmable calculator. The testing center gets to interpret that how they choose. With hundreds of testing centers their effort is hardly ensuring that you are on a level playing field.

I agree with dhlvrsn. I did find a manual for the EL-334F, it appears to be a very basic calculator: http://www.sharpusa.com/files/cal_man_EL334F.pdf. Googling "EL-334F" does show some sellers, if you're interested in buying it to play on.
