Questions for people who have taken the College Algebra CLEP - WallaWallaWalla - 06-14-2014 1) Did you get any questions about the associative, distributive, or commutative properties? Any similar properties? I noticed this comes up a lot in the 2014 REA book but so far I'm not sure how much I can trust it. 2) Could you type into the onscreen calculator? 3) How hard were the questions that involved pictures of graphs? Did you have to do any hard-to-remember transformations, like involving exponential functions? 4) How much scratch paper did you get at a time, and when were you allowed to start using it? Do you bring your own pen/pencil or have to use one of theirs (and are pens an option?)? I'm thinking of keeping some formulas in my head on repeat by bringing a piece of paper of them in my jacket pocket and looking at them just before hooking my jacket up and sitting down, and then writing them down on the scratch paper immediately. Will this work? 5) If by any chance anyone used the 2014 REA College Algebra book and then did the CLEP, how did your score on REA's tests (called "College Algebra Packet 2nd Edition" on the website) compare to your score on the actual CLEP? 6) Did you get any questions which required the infinite arithmetic sums formula/any of arithmetic or geometric sequences/sums formulas? Questions for people who have taken the College Algebra CLEP - BGSU_Alum_86 - 06-16-2014 I want to address #4 from above -- Every test center may be different in how they allocate scratch paper for the CLEP exams. At our test center, I provide 5 pieces of scratch paper and 3 pencils for those candidates who are taking any type of math exam. CLEP policy is supposed to be 1 piece of paper and 1 pencil, and then you have to ask for more. Our testing set-up is a little different so I allow a little more flexibility. Candidates are NOT allowed to provide their own scratch paper or writing instrument (so you cannot bring in a pen or pencil). You are not allowed to start writing anything on your scratch paper until you are officially within the 90-minute time of the exam. For you this means, no, you cannot start writing down your formulas immediately as the test does not begin until you have worked your way through the policy screens and other pre-test screens.
