TESC Non-Western Literature question - happydayruth - 06-03-2014 As an English major with TESC, my understanding is that TESC requires either their own African Encounters course (LiT-331-OL) or their own Non-Western Literature course (LiT-460-OL) to fulfill the "Non-Western literature" requirement in the area of study. Does anyone happen to know if this is absolutely true? I would love to be able to take something else...like Asian or Russian literature, which I think should fulfill the "non-western" designation as long as I could find something that TESC would accept as upper level. I've just never heard of any other students being able to get around those two TESC options. TESC Non-Western Literature question - DSH2007 - 06-04-2014 I plan to take the Russian Literature course at APU. My understanding is this course should meet the non-western requirement, but I have not as yet confirmed this with TESC. Last year, when I asked TESC about a World Lit course (which did not meet the non-western requirement) I received the following clarification: Quote:Non-Western means Non-European. You will have to locate a course that refers to the writings by people in any culture except those of Western Europe, Ancient Greece or Rome and North America, including Canada. I suggest that you consider our courses or try to locate an Asian, Native American OR Latin American Literature course. I hope this is helpful. Good luck! Last year, when I asked TESC about a World Lit course (which did not meet the non-western requirement) I received the following clarification: Yes, this is definitely helpful. I'm planning on taking the Russian Lit course through APU as an elective if nothing else; I may also try getting an Asian Lit course through the University of North Carolina Greensboro approved as the non-western requirement. I'm planning to enroll in August, so hopefully I'll get definite answers from TESC then. Thanks! No confirmation as yet. I am now enrolled, plan on finalizing my degree plan with an advisor in the near future (6-8 weeks), and will update this thread then. Unless of course, you beat me to it. ![]() TESC Non-Western Literature question - DSH2007 - 08-25-2014 I just received word from advising that the American Public University course LITR360 - Russian Literature is approved and meets the non-western literature requirement at TESC. Plus, the advisor added it to my evaluation as planned credit. How exciting is that? Do svidania! P.S. Kudos to TESC Advising for same-day service... my request was handled within hours. Spasiba! ![]() TESC Non-Western Literature question - happydayruth - 08-25-2014 Harasho! Otlichna!! That's fabulous. I'm hoping to start the Russian Literature course in October (provided that I passed my College Comp CLEP)! :-) TESC Non-Western Literature question - happydayruth - 09-17-2014 Just FYI for my BA in English through TESC, I just got Middle Eastern Literature from APU approved for my non-western literature requirement. Course code: LITR365. I'm going to take Russian Literature from APU as well, but Middle Eastern Literature looked interesting and I thought it would be fun to get another non-western option approved. :-) |
