How long do COSC Cornerstone and Capstone courses take? - josh7 - 05-22-2014
I haven't really given much thought to COSC because of the requirements of both a Cornerstone AND a Capstone, in two separate semesters. But the pricing seems a little better for someone testing out almost 100%.
My question: how long would it take me to complete both? I'd really like to apply for graduation before year-end, since I'll have all my CLEPs/DSSTs completed by then.
I'm having trouble finding a simple schedule on their website, but if it's there and I've overlooked it please let me know

8 weeks for each. The Capstone is on demand so you may not see it in their course offerings but when you are ready for it they assign you a mentor and you can complete it in 8 weeks.

Actually, it is depending on your major. Capstones at COSC can run between 5 weeks and 15 weeks. If you are doing a Individualized Studies major, then your capstone is 15 weeks total. A 5 week course to develop the project and then a 10 week course to complete the project.
The Public Safety Administration major is only a 5 week Capstone, I think most of the others are going to be between 8 and 15 weeks.....either way it's doable, just not in the same semester.
I might be in the minority here, but I chose COSC in part because they required things like a Cornerstone and a Capstone. Their standards have actually gone up since I enrolled, of course that could be just a result of increased oversight on all schools from the New England Association of Colleges and Schools.

I forgot about those doing Individualized studies. I was told by my adviser that there are no 5 week Capstones. Otherwise, I would have chosen that.

I'm looking at the liberal studies: history/humanities capstone which applies to students who are taking either history or humanities as an area of concentration plus another area. It's really late/early so forgive me if I'm not too coherent. Does that mean that liberal studies students who have selected an area of study that is one area of the humanities (like religion or literature, not just humanities) would be taking this capstone?

Just read this on the charter oak acorn website.
Individualized/Liberal Studies Capstones â These 498 and 499 capstone courses are offered in a slightly different schedule from those listed above. The 498âs fit into the 5-week sessions but the 499âs are ten weeks long. The 498 must be taken and passed (C or higher) prior to 499 (not concurrently) and 499 must immediately follow 498 either in the same semester or in the semester that follows. Refer to the Academic Calendar on ACORN for exact dates.
