Hi, does anyone know of a location where I can get a good (read: SIMPLE) explanation of the law of total probability? It's a concept in an ALEKS stats course that I'm taking, and I'm not getting it. I've searched the web, the khanacademy site, and looked in both Complete Idiot's Guide to Statistics and Statistics Workbook for Dummies, but the search, like my understanding of this concept, is coming up blank. I've printed up the dictionary definition in ALEKS. My suspicioun is that if my grasp of the other probabilty laws was better, I'd understand this concept more readily, but it isn't, and I don't.

Thank you. banghead

Total Probability Theorum (Source: Cornell.edu) I think the examples are pretty good.

Law of Total Probability (Source: Reed.edu) More good examples

More good stuff that will help you wrap your head around the subject.

- Introductory Probability and Statistics for Business Playlist (Source: UCBerkely). This couse is taught by Professor Philip Stark, he is the department chair and I think a great stats instructor.

Thanks, Bricabrac. The word problems for this in ALEKS are like the worst Algebra word problems you've ever encountered on crack!

Here is another site that helped me with Bayes' theorem, Finite Mathematics and Applied Calculus It's in the finite math section. I'm very visual, and the tree helped.
