Questions from a PennFoster newbie! - Ca008286 - 05-03-2014 Hey guys, I have some questions about Penn Foster. I have done CLEP, DSST, and StraighterLine but I have never explored Penn Foster as an option. I see it is something a lot of you take advantage of. I am in TESC now and I saw on another thread someone said they substituted Principles of Finance and International Management at TESC for Penn Foster classes. I looked on the website but I am still confused about how PF works. My questions are: If wanted to take these classes there would I just be paying for the classes? Not enrollment? How does that work? Do you guys think Penn Foster classes are easier than TESC classes? (I don't find TESC too difficult, but I get bogged down with the writing and I am so not looking forward to International Management's final 14-20 page paper!) What are PF classes like? Writing? Exams? Proctored Exams? If I contact an academic advisor at TESC would they be able to confirm I could transfer these classes? Thanks in advanced for the help! Christine Questions from a PennFoster newbie! - bluebooger - 05-03-2014 you can view the individual classes here Individual College Courses | Penn Foster College supposedly there is a way to take other courses without actually signing up for a degree, but I don't know how I'm doing the English Composition course and I love it English Composition College Course-Penn Foster College I have no idea if its like the other courses, but it has no proctored exams, the papers are relatively short and the books are included in the price of the course and I know nothing about TESC, I'm using this for Excelsior Questions from a PennFoster newbie! - sanantone - 05-03-2014 You have to call Penn Foster to sign up for the courses that aren't listed individually? Make sure they are currently ACE-approved. You have to actually click on the course and make sure its approval hasn't expired. http://www2.acenet.edu/credit/?fuseaction=browse.getOrganizationDetail&FICE=191627 Questions from a PennFoster newbie! - Ca008286 - 05-03-2014 So only the classes on the individual course are.... well individual courses? I was hoping to potentially take Strategic Business Management- ICS-0218, International Business - ICS-0219, Supply Chain Management ICS-0212, and Financial Management– ICS-0068. Does anyone have feedback on these courses. I read their course description on the ACE list, but I can't seem to find any sort of detailed syllabus for these courses on the PF website. I definitely want to take Finance, but I want to weigh the other three against the TESC equivalent and see which one I could knock out quicker. Christine Questions from a PennFoster newbie! - sanantone - 05-03-2014 Technically, they aren't supposed to be individual courses, but you can still purchase them individually over the phone. Questions from a PennFoster newbie! - bricabrac - 05-03-2014 Do a search on this website. I have read plenty of feedback on both strategic management and financial management. I even left reviews on financial management. Both are much easier and less cumbersome to take at PF vs TESC. BTW, Penn Foster does not use a course syllabus, their equivalent is called a study guide. It includes course notes and instructions for each assignment/online quiz. On international business, are you using it to fill the business in society/international management business core requirement or to fill the area of study? If business core, the easiest and most affordable way to fill that slot is the DSST Business Ethics & Society exam. The IC flashcards and specific exam feedback was more than enough to pass this exam. Good luck! ________________________________ Edit to add: Here's my feedback on financial management - thread one of the latest on strategic management - thread I'm sure with a bit of research you'll find much more. Questions from a PennFoster newbie! - marquardt21 - 05-03-2014 Call Ann Gardner at Penn Foster to enroll in the classes that you want to take. Her number is 1-800-233-0259 or 1-800-238-9554. Yeah, society/international management business is a core requirement. I didn't know that that DSST could fulfill it. I did CollegePlus.... they had figured out all the CLEP and DSST I could take. I guess they missed one. Questions from a PennFoster newbie! - sanantone - 05-03-2014 Ca008286 Wrote:Thanks for the help!! Yeah, society/international management business is a core requirement. Since I have little confidence in CollegePlus, I'll post this. Haha, thanks for the list! They were always good to me. I see on that list that StraighterLine Business Ethics (which I did take) might duplicate DSST Business Ethics and Society, so CP could very well be right. I will have to check on it with TESC. |
