Here's a guess...Maybe the "ph" was too confusing and too hard to remember, so they decided to put an "f" there instead of a "ph" because "f" is easier to remember than "ph" for pronunciation.

The phillipines were colonized by Imperial Spain during the age of european imperialism and the islanders adopted many customs from their invaders such as language and religion (Catholicism)......


filipino is a spanish term for philipines.....
