Anybody work in the finance world? - ironheadjack - 03-02-2014 I've been considering a career in finance, but I'm looking for some insider knowledge about the field. The one thing I've always heard was that you need connections to get started, which kind of scared me away but there has to be ways to get your foot in the door. Here's hoping someone on the forum works in finance and can give me some advice... Anybody work in the finance world? - corpsole2 - 03-02-2014 That's funny, because I'm also looking at a career in finance. I want to do something with the B.A. before I decide to earn the MBA or J.D. Check out Breaking Into Wall Street, founded by Brian DeChesare. It has several courses which teach you financial modeling that is used in PE firms, M&A, bulge bracket, and investment banks. He founded it about seven years ago and since then about 22,000 students have taken his courses. He lists the universities, investment firms, and the U.S. Treasury as firms which have used his materials. He also sells a $97 course on how to network and rock your interviews. The knowledge you gain from his courses are supposed to set you apart and you can hit the ground running. I am thinking of doing his courses, but his basic course is $247. I am going to put the funds together to buy this, since I am looking at the job market, and most entry level jobs aren't appealing, and the jobs I want require more education. This is a great paying alternative. ;-) Here's the site: http://breakingintowallstreet.com. Anybody work in the finance world? - ironheadjack - 03-02-2014 Interesting Corp, I'll read that link. But I was actually considering getting a Masters in Finance. There are quite a few well-known state schools that offer an online MS in finance. I don't know if I should try and jump into a finance masters, or go back to TESC for a BSBA in finance. I would suggest that you at least TRY to get a job in Finance before giving up. And, you might end up with a company that pays for your tuition to get your MBA or a masters. |
