Excelsior Associate in Applied Science - Technical Studies (Computer Technologies) - Vampir1c - 02-07-2014
Hey everyone,
I'm having a little issues planning out my path for this degree. I've paid my admission fee, and received my preliminary review and only need 11/20 more credits in the Career component section. Looking at the review I believe my past courses consisting of Principles of Telecommunication, Discrete Structures, and Computer Science 1 were applied to my Computer Technologies Career Component section.
I'm trying to find out if the Information Systems and Computer Applications CLEP exam, Introduction to Computing DSST exam, and the Management Information Systems DSST exam would take care of the remaining Career Component credits, leaving me with the capstone.
They aren't answering until I enroll (because then they'll point me to an adviser), and I can't afford to spend the money to enroll until I know these answers. It would be great if someone could provide some insight or point me in the right direction with these courses.

Computer Science I, Introduction to Computing, and Information systems and computer applications all count as the same course at TESC. You won't get credit for all three.

Sorry, wasn't paying attention to the Excelsior part. Information Systems and Intro to Computing overlap at Excelsior. I don't believe they overlap with Comp Sci I. I seem to remember Comp Sci I being approved along with Information Systems. It is extremely important to keep the syllabus for each course when dealing with Excelsior so you can argue the overlap issue. They are quick to assume overlap.
Pay close attention to the categories in the Technical/Business catalog under Computer Technology. The advisers follow them closely.

Thanks for the answer, the Comp Sci I course I took at my previous university was primarily a Java programming course. I don't think they should overlap if I provide the syllabus of the Comp Sci I course. Thanks again. Kind of annoying that they won't give me a straight answer until I pay the registration fee -_-

I have an AAS Technical Studies from Excelsior now going for BS in Health Studies. I am retired from the US Coast Guard and finished my AAS during Active Duty. There were several of us at the time working on degrees from Excel...here is a secret: Complete all or your un official reviews/evaluations first; find out what credits will be awarded from the other instituitons/cleps/dsst/military ect first before enrolling and paying while you are working on completing other requirements i.e. clep/social studies/English ect ect. Once you have completed everything else then and only then enroll and pay the excelsior fees up until graduation.
For example: now I am working on a Clep for American Gov and will need to complete ENG Comp II, those are my requirements from my un official evaluation so, I work those first before paying Excel fees to be enrolled when I am not actively taking Excel courses. Excelsior college is good but you have to learn how to get around paying so many fees when you can to save money. I just submitted a transcript to Excel then I received a form in the mail to pay 25$ to add those credits to my Excel Transcript but when I pass my Cleps will have to do the same thing again so, I wait until my cleps are done as to not pay the 25$ fee twice.
