My thesis topic was accepted! - cookderosa - 12-18-2013
I finished my LAST master's class this week and crossed my fingers that I'd hear back about my master's proposal sometime before the end of Christmas break. I got an email last night that my program director loves my project idea (whew- I really wasn't sure) and so with a few minor grammar changes and an additional citation, I'll resubmit tonight!
Exciting right? Except, now it occurs to me that I have to actually DO THE THING!! :willynilly:
Wow!! And I know, people will ask "what is your topic?" but having answered that question in real life for about a dozen people (as I watched their eyes glaze over) I think people are just being polite, so I've learned not to really explain- just tell. LOL My title is NUTRITION IN THE UNDERGRADUATE CULINARY CURRICULUM: A SURVEY OF UNITED STATES CULINARY PROGRAMS

Excellent! Congrats, Jennifer. I'm working on an idea for my Capstone, so I know that coming up with a good idea is half the battle. Ok... maybe not half, but still.

that sounds really interesting
but I'm surprised that you got any cooperation
I would have thought if you approached a school and said "I'm doing research on the emphasis of nutrition in your curriculum", that most schools would be wary of being portrayed in a negative light (or at least be concerned how they compare to other schools and what you would do with the results) and wouldn't want to be interviewed -- the wrong interviewer could easily turn this into a propaganda piece

It's a fact-finding mission, not an interview project. I'll be collecting data on every <gulp> RA degree granting culinary arts program in the country. I'll be essentially building a database on a few particulars of the nutrition COURSES offered in their culinary arts programs. Nutrition walks a line between academic transfer and career/applied tech, so I'll be the first person to pull it together into a big picture.
