College Algebra, PASSED! - blueyzz28 - 06-14-2007 I took the College Algebra today and passed with a 55!! That takes care of my precalculus requirement. I studied using the REA College Algebra book and I used a text book entitled, Introductory and Intermediate Algebra: A combined aproach. I think if you study that text, anyone will pass. I studied for approximately 5 weeks and put in a total of 45-55 hours, but it was worth it! On the exam, I found there were simply polynomial problems, some problems on inverse functions, some questions on composite functions such as f(g(x)), and only two questions on line equations, finding the slope of a line. There were multiple questions on graphs, specifically being able to pick out the graph of a function, and there were two or three problems that gave you various equations and you had to select the correct equation that matches the graph. There were a few problems with logarithms and only 3 fill in the blank answers. That is all I can remember right now! I'm taking Statistics on Monday & I'm debating on whether to continue in the math area & just get College Algebra out of the way. I copied your feedback & posted it in the Specific Exam Feedback section for other members. College Algebra, PASSED! - Southron Boy - 06-14-2007 Great job, Blue! What a relief! Algebra is one I am going to start studying for soon. What was your experience with algebra before studying for this exam? Thanks for the great feedback! College Algebra, PASSED! - blueyzz28 - 06-14-2007 I did not have much experience. I had taken math up to the level of trigonometry in High School, which was 15 years ago! Use the books I did and you should do fine. College Algebra, PASSED! - ShotoJuku - 06-14-2007 Way to go - Congrats!!

College Algebra, PASSED! - blueyzz28 - 06-16-2007 There were also some questions on inequalities and solving them. Specifically, there was one that read, write the inequality for x(x-3)>0. More specifically, write the solution set. There was a question that dealt with distance which is d=rt, with r being rate and t being time. It gave a formula that read similiar to this: The formula given was that a plane flies a specified distance, formula was d=650t-250. How far did the plane travel between the 2.5 hour mark and the 3.5 hour mark. I think you put those numbers in place of t and then subtract both sums to get the distance between 2.5 and 3.5. There was also a question in which they give you the formula but you have not know where the information fits in the formula. The formula was n!/(n-1)! There were also 2 or 3 question with imaginary numbers. Specifically, there was a question that asked you to look at three equations and determine if 2i was a solution to any of the equations. Then there were questions that simply asked you to add. Example: (2+3i) + (5-2i). I was actually trying to remember the questions so that I could pass examples on to everyone. I know math is a tough exam for many. |
