EC - cancel enrollment - bs13 - 09-25-2013

Hi,

I have enrolled in BS degree with EC. Now I am planning to apply in COSC. If COSC gives me more credits, I may cancel my enrollment with EC. Will there any fee for cancelling the enrollment?

thanks
BS

There is no fee to cancel the enrollment at Excelsior if you paid the full fee which is good for a year. If you entered through a partnership program like I did and only paid $180 then if I don't complete 12 credits before I leave I have to pay the full enrollment fee. You have a year to do whatever you want at Excelsior and if you let the year expire you pay a readmission fee which is smaller than the full enrollment price. Set you calendar about two months from the anniversary of your enrollment and cancel it then or just don't renew. I'm not sure how much it costs to enroll at COSC, but whatever Excelsior allows on their initial evaluation is almost solid once you enroll. If you don't like COSC you can always have a transcript sent to EC and see how they process your courses while still enrolled. It takes about 3-4 weeks for a transcript to appear on your evaluation in some cases, I had issues regarding ECDL/ICDL but it was worth the effort to get them to accept it. The other question is what credits are you trying to get them to accept that they aren't?

Thank you EI2HCB. I entered through partnership program, paid only 130 for enrollment. I was not aware of the 12 EC credit requirement. Do I need to pay the full fee if I leave before completing one year?
I have only 32 credits and Computer technology capstone to complete with EC. The next capstone course start date is in 2014 Jan and my graduation date would be June. So I am thinking I can apply to COSC and see if I could complete the degree sooner than EC.

I'm nearly sure that if you will have to pay the difference to exit. So if you have been there for two years then you'll pay the difference of two years enrollment. If you check your official evaluation it should detail that you must take 12 credits. I'm a half time student there so I should (please God) have six credits by Christmas and then another six by May under my FAFSA agreement. Remember January is only a few weeks away about 18 weeks which is one class term away plus two weeks recuperation . would you be able to complete your 32 credits elsewhere in that time? Ten classes in 18 weeks would be hard followed by a capstone. You could CLEP and DSST out faster remember the CLEP booking process is changing so watch out for that!

Thanks for your advice.

My academic plan report was prepared on 9/16/2013. I came to know about the 12 credits requirement only when I got my official evaluation. The admission counselors never told me about this requirement. My plan is to take StraighterLine and CLEPs.

thanks
BS.

I took the 12 credits, however I only have to pay for 9. If you are a partnership student are your grades are decent, you can apply for a partnership scholarship which covered one of my classes. My Pell grant covered 2 of them and I paid for the other 2 out of pocket and turned out to be a better deal than COSC, plus if you have taken SL classes EC credits your account with $50 per class for a max of $200

Thank you. May I know how would I apply for Partnership scholarship?

I (and a couple others) simply emailed them asking about it. Next thing I know, I was awarded a scholarship that covered one of my classes. YMMV.

Yes, that is really nice Smile You can apply for a Partnership obtaining a membership with the POAG, Peace Officers Association of Georgia. It is $25, you will also receive a cheaper tuition rate. But if you graduated from a partner community college you can get an even cheaper tuition but you need to make sure you let them know beforehand.
