Has anyone taken Eng. Comp w/o Essay? - ceekay84 - 06-11-2007 I see people taking the English Composition with Essay here... Are there any that have taken it without the Essay portion? How are the multiple choice questions on the Eng. Comp w/o the Essay? Can I still use IC to study for the English Comp. w/o the essay? Has anyone taken Eng. Comp w/o Essay? - Southron Boy - 06-12-2007 Hey! I have taken both English Comp Versions: 2 years ago took English Comp w/ essay - failed by 4 or 5 points 1 year ago took w/o essay - passed in the 60's Last month retook English Comp w/ essay and passed with a 59 OK---The w/o essay version has harder multiple choice questions, but the w/ essay version is the one I found to be more difficult, not because of the questions (which are basic grammar), but because of the random essay prompt. IC is good study for either version, but I would fervently recommend Cracking the CLEP by The Princeton Review (very accurate practice exams) and the Cliffs Notes on writing and basic English grammar. The Official CLEP guide has the most accurate practice exam (Peterson's is overtly difficult on the english CLEP and a poor gauge of your ability on the English Comp exam). For what its worth, I would recommend taking the WITH essay version unless you know that you will NOT transfer to another school. Most schools accept WITH essay (some will even grant credit for English I and II requirements), but only a very select few accept WITHOUT. Has anyone taken Eng. Comp w/o Essay? - highlanderburial - 06-12-2007 I took it without essay, and passed with a 56 or so. Fat lot of good it did. No one seems to accept it at the BA/BS level. If your going for an associates than go for it. Otherwise, take the ECE comp. or the one WITH essay. Has anyone taken Eng. You'd be better off, honestly, just taking the one with the essay, as you'd be hard pressed to find a school that would accept it for a Bachelors' program. I've only taken the one with the essay, and while challenging...it wasn't too bad overall. If you have no concept of proper english structure, or if you have a real difficult time in this area, then you'd really want to know IC down pat, and even find some other sources to supplement. For those that did fairly well in high school english & comp. classes, then....I think you'll find that this isn't overly difficult. Has anyone taken Eng. Comp w/o Essay? - ceekay84 - 06-12-2007 From what I know from my school. The Comp. w/ Essay gives 6 credits for 2 ENG classes while the Comp w/o Essay gives 6 credits as well, but 3 of them go towards the ENG class and the other 3 go towards a Humanities class. As of this moment, I need 1 more ENG class and 1 more Humanities class hence why I think the Comp w/o essay is the better option for me. Has anyone taken Eng. I took the W/O essay and fell into this problem during my BS pursuit. In the end, I ended up taking a B&M English Comp course on the base. I think highlanderburial stated it best (see above). I took the test cold (zero study) and got a 65 on it. Watch your time though because there is a lot of reading. Please look at the Specific Exam Feedback section for more feedback. Good luck!
