TESC Is No Longer Accepting Community College Credits As Upper Level?? (Need advice) - kurlovich - 08-21-2013 Hello everyone, I'm having an issue with TESC that could possibly affect all of us in the future. I'm here to make you all aware of it, and to seek advice from the veterans on the board. I've been a lurker on this forum for over a year and used the information provided to plan my degree. I enrolled to TESC back in April to beat the new requirements deadline and my desired degree is BSBA-CIS. I thought I had all the credits complete and have sent in over 110 to TESC already. I took many of my CIS electives through KCTCS (as per Ternzer's old post). On my initial evaluation they listed my CIS classes as 100-200 level, even making up imaginary course designations to transcribe them. These classes all have upper level courses which match in the PLA Database, so I thought it was a mistake. I made an appeal to the registrar, giving them all the course info and some links to this forum from people who received 300 level credit for the same courses, and got this reply in return: "Regarding courses CIT-150 and CIT-120...since they were completed through a community college, they cannot be transferred in as upper level courses. However, I did find more suitable equivalencies for each. CIT-150 has been changed to CAP-180 (Introduction to the Internet). CIT-120 has been changed to CIS-209 (Database Design)." To be clear, this is not a matter of them finding a better fit. CIT150 should transfer in as CAP370, and CIT120 should be CIS320 (Systems Analysis and Design - it's what Ternzer was given in his post here). Basically, they made up imaginary course designations to keep from giving me 300 level credit. Neither of her "suitable equivalencies" even exist in the PLA Database. Obviously, there has never been a policy like this in the past. There are dozens and dozens of people on this board who have been given UL credit for CC classes, so what is going on? I can't find any mention of this policy in the catalog or on the website (or here), and I signed up and paid under the last catalog year, so the same policies applying to the last batch of grads should apply to me. Correct? Frankly, I feel I'm being discriminated against. I plan on appealing this, but I'm not sure how I should go about it. Is there a specific individual I should contact about this (dean, etc?). I appreciate any advice any of you may have. I really hope this is just a mistake. If not, it's going to have a negative impact on a lot of people in the future. ![]() TESC Is No Longer Accepting Community College Credits As Upper Level?? (Need advice) - Daithi - 08-21-2013 I really hope that is not the case. I have a bunch of StraighterLine courses that others have transferred in as UL, and I'd be really upset if they've changed the policy. TESC Is No Longer Accepting Community College Credits As Upper Level?? (Need advice) - sanantone - 08-21-2013 Email the school of business and management. I think Patricia usually responds. sbt@tesc.edu TESC Is No Longer Accepting Community College Credits As Upper Level?? (Need advice) - Max Droid - 08-22-2013 All the courses I completed at my CC were either transcribed as 100 or 200 level at TESC. This included my marketing and management courses too, which had I taken CLEP exams to complete them, I think they would have transcribed as 300 level courses. I completed the BSBA-General Management degree at TESC, which doesn't specify UL minimum so I didn't worry when they transcribed as lower level. Daithi, I don't think Straighterline is considered a community college at TESC, so I think you are ok. TESC Is No Longer Accepting Community College Credits As Upper Level?? (Need advice) - sanantone - 08-22-2013 I got a lot of UL credit for CC courses, but this was two years ago and for a social science degree. When I reapplied this year for the BSBA, I was still given UL credit for an organizational behavior course I took at a CC. Maybe things changed after July 1st, but TESC is known for making mistakes. TESC Is No Longer Accepting Community College Credits As Upper Level?? (Need advice) - SweetSecret - 08-22-2013 I really hope this is not the case. Did you specifically ask if TESC is no longer accepting community college credits for any UL courses? I have a ton of CC courses, & some LL courses from 4 year colleges. I expected many of them to transfer in as UL courses though. Since I'm currently unemployed, I've been working on a lot of the free online courses, but if what you are saying is true, I may end up being a lot further away from graduation than I expected. I haven't been able to actually apply to TESC yet due to lack of finances, otherwise I would be calling over & asking for myself! If you find out anything, please post. Thanks! TESC Is No Longer Accepting Community College Credits As Upper Level?? (Need advice) - Tayon - 08-23-2013 Oh man that/this would be very upsetting for quite a few people! Hope this is not true! TESC Is No Longer Accepting Community College Credits As Upper Level?? (Need advice) - kurlovich - 08-23-2013 Ok, I've got a help ticket in and sent an email to the School of Business (thanks Sanantone!). I've requested their policy in writing, so we'll see if they can produce one. I honestly can't find anything on their website or in the catalogs about this. Either way, I'll be waiting on a reply until this coming week. As soon as I find out, you'll all be the first to know. In the mean time, is there anyone out there who has recently had CC credit granted as upper level? Any grads from this past year? Please chime in!
