CLEP Biology vs.CLEP Natural Sciences - ironheadjack - 08-14-2013

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had any insight into these two CLEP tests, which one is easier to study for and grasp the required knowledge. I know your mileage will vary, and easiness is quite a subjective term, but I was curious if there was a general consensus as to which one of the two is easier to study for and pass.

I need eight (8) natural science credits, and I think either of these two tests would be my best bet....unless anyone can offer me a different, easier solution.

I looked at CLEP Biology but it is very broad and seemed too intense for me. I have lots of Chemistry, and other science knowledge from my work so I found Natural Science a better choice for me, Remember the Natural science is still about 50% Bio.

Natural Sciences is a lot easier, while Biology is more focused and "useful." If you're going for a degree in something that isn't science-intensive, and you're looking for the easier CLEP option, go with Natural Sciences.

Thank you both.

Natural science is the way I was leaning and I figured a test with more diversity of subject matter would make it a bit easier.

If anyone else has an opinion, I'd be happy to hear it.

I'm going to disagree with the previous posters. I believe the natural sciences test is the broader of the two tests so it requires a lot more study to make sure you can answer the larger range of questions they may ask. In addition, as Lindagerr said, "Natural science is still about 50% Bio". This means you are going to have to study for the biology portion anyway.

I believe most people take biology first, which means they have already studied for half of the natural science test. Then they finish up their studying and take the natural science test.

With all of that said, I haven't taken either test. They were both in my initial degree plan, and the above advice is what I received, but I shifted things around and didn't need to take either of them.

Natural Sciences is broad but shallow. You learn the 1/2 that's Bio pretty well, but there are only certain aspects of it you need to know—you don't have to know everything on the subject. http://www.KhanAcademy.org's Biology playlist prepared me very well for that. As for the rest of the topics, read through the REA or Comex book and supplement with various online sites and you should be golden Wink

Hi, I was just wondering how hard it is to pass NS , I took biology CLEP week ago and passed with 69 , I studied fair amount for 7 weeks, English is my second Language and Ive been out of College in Poland for 15 years, , for biology I studied with Clifs Notes AP which was very good, Is there any book you can relay on for that exam?? Im kind of old fashion ,I like to have paper book to carry around and be able to look at when I need it, I used instantcert as well but they don't have NS. Im just very nervous even with my Biology test taken already.

Well, since you passed the Bio CLEP with such a good score a short time ago, you're already well on your way to passing Natural Sciences! I used the Comex book and found it helpful; it has 1 practice test that's a little too easy but it does cover the necessary info. Review for the CLEP General Natural Science Examination 16th Edition: Comex Systems, Inc. Staff: 9781560302520: Amazon.com: Books I didn't use it, but you might also want to try the REA book: it has 3 practice tests. CLEP Natural Sciences w/ CD-ROM (CLEP Test Preparation): Laurie Ann Callihan, David Callihan M.S., CLEP: 9780738604657: Amazon.com: Books

Krupcia, Did you have your Polish degree evaluated by an evaluation agency or is that what your current college is telling you?
