Advice on human growh & development 1st time taking clep test - mirlact - 08-02-2013

Hello everyone! I'm gonna be taking developmental psychology next thursday. I'm a little nervous since I have never taken a clep test before. Has anybody taken this??? Would you say it is a difficult test??? Any feedbacks and study materials recommendations will be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!

I've taken it twice and "failed" it at 62. I don't know how I got identical failing scores, but passing is 63 at my school so here goes the third time... Sad

Going to take it again on Tuesday and I feel good about it! I'm pretty sick of studying. I've been reading the textbook (sparingly), reading the REA prep book (which I've read several times over my prep for these tests), gone over all of the IC flashcards, and taken all three Peterson tests with a 77, 83, and 72.

It was a hard test. The questions sometimes seem vague, and the Peterson's tests reflect that some, I think. I highly recommend the Peterson's tests and the REA book. The IC flashcards are OK but it's annoying that I can't add correct answers to the bank of questions for next time. The blanks also seem a little trivial at times and it doesn't help me learn. I might actually go through with the blanks disabled because I think I'd learn more that way.

Thank you for all your feedback! Are these the IC flashcards you got? Study Guide for The Human Growth and Development CLEP
As far as the REA prep book....is this the one you got? The Best Test Preparation for the CLEP: Human Growth and Development (REA Test Prep Series) by The Staff of REA | 9780878919024 | Paperback | Barnes & Noble
The PEterson's test you gotta buy them online, right?
So far all I have is the 2013 Clep official study guide. It has 80 questions to review....but I don't think that is enough. Did you have to actually get a DEvelopmental Psychology textbook? I took out my psychology book and review the life span chapter but it is not enough.

DSST Lifespan developmental Psychology is very similar and any study material for that test will help. Have you joined IC? If so look through the Specific exam feedback. I took the clep and didn't think it was that hard but I had taken several Psych, exams before that one.

Good morning Linda,

Thank you for your reply. I have not joined IC yet. I'm a little lost with the terms DSST, IC, I apologize. I believe I found the IC website. It is 20 dollars to sign up, correct? And do they only offer flashcards? I have also taken two psychology classes and as I'm doing my review, I'm remembering some of it. Also, did you happen to study from any textbook? I am going to get the Human Growth and Development (REA Test Prep Series). I hope that helps me too.

IC is short for InstantCert, but I see you've found the website. This forum is offered by Instantcert. They only offer flashcards as study materials. Signing up also gives you access to the Specific Feedback Forum on here. Many people find it valuable; I never found much of a need for it. DSST is a test that was created by DANTES (a military department for education) and is offered by Prometric. It's similar to CLEP, but it's not accepted by as many schools. The Big 3 (Thomas Edison, Charter Oak, and Excelsior) do accept them, however.

Sanantone answered most of your questions, but I will tell you I am an obsessive over studier. I loved going over the specific exam feedback, some people (who know how) post study guides there. Also people will tell what areas they thought the test focused on and what areas they were not prepared for.

Yes IC is Instantcert Academy, it is $20/month but you can get discounts for the first month someone even has it in their signature, if you are doing a lot of exams in a short time you can join for 6 months at a discount. I always joined when I had one or several test to study for then quit when I wasn't studying. I miss the specific exam feedback now but I am only coaching my children and none of them has actually taken a test yet. The flashcards as they are called (I think of them more as fill in the blank) helped me study but I usually didn't try to answer I just used them by clicking through and reading questions and answers.

I never bought any textbooks I used IC, REA books, Peterson practice test (they used to be available free), and online sources recommended by others here. Oh and the free -clep -prep sight it is great. Also read Sanantones signature lots of free sources listed there.

Thank you!!!!
I'm getting an REA book at barnes and noble now.
I hope is the same one. I have a clep official study guide with 80 sample questions. I'm hoping the one I'm getting today is different.
Are you also studying from any textbook? I have my psychology textbook by Carpenter and Huffman and chapter 9 and 10 are about life span but it is limited.
