Need statistics help - sklineho - 07-20-2013 I'm at my breaking point here. I'm at 65% in ALEKS. This stuff is getting absurd and I find it shocking that this material would be covered in a lower level stats class, some of it seems WAY too complex. If I could knock out the Least Squared Regression stuff and the Confidence (the purple wedge) topics I think I'd be done. But none of the online guides are worth anything and don't help me at all. Does anyone understand this stuff or know of a site that explains it in a way that will help with the ALEKA format? This is the last thing I need to finish a degree and it's beyond irritating. I too found ALEKS stats to be extremely difficult. In the end, I started printing each problem so I could study it in detail (mentally pull it apart and put it back together). It's slow, but it's the only way I could pass it. Need statistics help - jmichelle79 - 07-20-2013 Mean of grouped data (Shortcut) - YouTube - i wish i searched for this when I took stats. I agree with ncpenn, print it out for review. Good Luck!
Need statistics help - sklineho - 07-21-2013 Yeah the printing multiple versions of each problem thing is vital especially on questions with "more than/less than" etc. (like the Binomials) and for stuff like the null hypothesis questions. I've found one slight silver lining though: ALEKS apparently rounds up when calculating the total percentage (blue bar) At 77/119 mastered (on the blue bar) it gives me 65% (78 should be 65%) So I'm wondering if the magic number is 83/119 instead of 84/119 to hit 70%. If I remember right it rounded my percentage up from 69.7% to 70% and I got my ACE credit for that. If you print out multiple versions of a question (say 4-5) you will more than likely see one of those questions on an assessment (I did) only with different values/variables... Need statistics help - sklineho - 07-21-2013 I actually had a case yesterday where a question I printed appeared on the assessment with the same variables, it was word for word, number for number identical. I suspect this is rare, it's the only time I've seen it. Need statistics help - GoodYellowDogs - 07-21-2013 You could also try the KahnAcademy.org, they have a lot on stats. Need statistics help - sklineho - 07-22-2013 My problem with Khan (and don't get me wrong, I think Khan is one of the best educational resources out there) is that the way they expect you to do certain problems doesn't always match up with ALEKS. But often it does and in those cases it is useful. |
