I took and passed US History I and II on the same day. I used the CLEP book (practice exam) and the Petersen's practice exams to build my study guide. I supplemented a bit (for questions I missed on the practice exams) with Wikipedia. The act of taking the practice exams and building my study guide (copying questions/answers/analysis) from Peterson's and editing it to be relevant for me, and then studying that guide, prepared me plenty for the actual exams.

I just took this 2 days ago and passed with a 74. I used the REA clep book and the don't know much about us history book. Make sure you know the maps of the US. There were about 5 map questions that asked things like which states weren't part of the confederacy. Know the early political parties and who they appealed to. Know what the hudson river school is. Know who and what transcendalists were.

I used an AP U.S. History study guide and passed with a score of 68. I studied the book and took the practice tests. I would advise taking practice tests to help prepare you for the test. There aren't many questions requiring remembering specific dates, but more questions about other aspects such as political movements, causes, reactions, etc.

natalia, you may want to check out the specific feedback section for study points.

I think the REA books for U.S. History are very good. Go to Wikipedia for an overview of the Constitutional Amendments. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_amendments_to_the_United_States_Constitution

Know the amendments for the time period covered on the test. Of course, the 27th amendment doesn't nicely fit into only one CLEP time period. It was proposed during U.S. History 1 and ratified during U.S. History 2.

I really enjoy history, so this test was interesting to study for Smile. There is quite a broad range of material to know though. I used the IC flashcards but supplemented quite a bit with other resources. You may not need to know specific dates, but you do need to know the general time period each event happened and the order of the events, which is hard to get from just the flashcards. I looked back through my high school textbook, and the other extremely helpful resource I found was HippoCampus U.S. History & American Government - Homework and Study Help videos. I watch the majority of the ones pertaining to the time period of the US History 1 CLEP. They were a great way to see history in action and learn the material in a different way than just reading it. Have fun!! Smile

May I know if these two books are same? If not, Can someone let me know which one is good?

1. CLEP* History of the United States I w/Online Practice Exams -- REA Test Prep - CLEP History of the U.S. I (Book & Practice Exams)

2. CLEP® History of the United States I Examination Guide -- CLEP Exams | CLEP
[PDF Download] The History of the United States I exam covers U.S. history from early European colonization to the end of Reconstruction.

thanks

I would go with the first one! Not sure what the examination guide is, probably a study guide, but I bought the first and it comes with a book and online practice exams!
