Time is drawing Nigh! Excelsior and NFA courses advice needed - EI2HCB - 05-06-2013

Hi everyone, the search function doesn't seem to be able to locate those old post on NFA courses. I'm looking at my Excelsior Preliminary review at present and the time draws near to enroll full and proper. Most of my credits from Ireland have transferred as LL electives so I'm wondering about what courses at Excelsior have been ousted by NFA courses with transferrable credit through ACE. I'm not sure I need any more electives but I'm wondering what NFA courses have transferred in as. I'm considering doing some of them to cut costs but your advice is appreciated.

Most people don't venture into the NFA courses, but I did complete the three that were available online and matched the ACE site. I used them at TESC but they are ACE approved so you should get something similar in credit at Excelsior. Most of their courses are matched up for credit given for in person courses taken at their training center so you'll have to make sure you find courses that are within the approval date and for online learning. FEMA credits are normally more than enough to fill in the free electives for most people, I was just super bored and completed these for "fun".

The courses I used (with TESC equivalents as of last year):

Fire Service Supervision: Self Study
National Emergency Training Center (NFA)
NNFA-0145
ACE Recommendation: In the vocational or lower division baccalaureate/associate category, 1 semester hour in Personnel or Human Resources Management, Business or Public Administration, Behavioral Science, Fire Science, Fire Administration, Law Enforcement, or Criminal Justice (7/03) (12/08).
TESC Course Match: 1 credit in HRM-331 (Human Resource Management)

Hydraulic Calculations for Water-Based Fire Protection Systems Plan Review
National Emergency Training Center (NFA)
NNFA-0203
ACE Recommendation: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 1 semester hour in Fire Science, or Industrial Safety (9/09).
TESC Course Match: 1 credit in FIS-241 (Fire Service Hydraulics)

Self-Study Course for Community Safey Educators (Safety is spelled Safey on the ACE Site)
National Emergency Training Center (NFA)
NNFA-0149
ACE Recommendation: In the vocational certificate or lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 1 semester hour in Fire Science, Adult Education, General Education, Public Health, or Safety Studies (8/01) (6/05)(9/09).
TESC Course Match: 1 credit in FIS-391 (Intro Fire Safety Education)

Your results may vary and EC might take them for other courses, but those are the courses to look for and start with.

Yes, those are the 3 courses I have seen listed for EC. The numbers were Q318, Q118, and Q137. All were Applied Professional (free electives). They were transcribed at EC as they were listed on the ACE transcript.

Thanks NAP,

Just trying to figure out if I need any more free electives, EC preliminary review isn't very clear Smile

You're welcome! Which degree are you planning? Do you want me to take a look at your evaluation?
