Chemistry CLEP - Best Approach - JohnnyHeck - 05-06-2013 I need 6cr Chemistry for BSAST at TESC. Chemistry CLEP fits the bill, but no InstaCert available. I have a lot of bio knowledge and College Algebra. Any great experiences or ideas out there on how to prepare for Chemistry CLEP. How about other means for 6cr non-lab Chemistry I,II for TESC? Chemistry CLEP - Best Approach - sanantone - 05-06-2013 I'm planning to take this test on the 20th. There is not much feedback on it in the Specific Feedback Forum. Do a search of the main forum and a lot of threads will pop up. I just grabbed one book from the library and am in the process of reading the whole thing. I'm hoping it's enough. It's not the cheapest, but Kansas community colleges have a lot of online courses in the sciences year-round. http://edukan.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/eduKan-Summer-2013-Course-Schedule-Rev22aApr2013.pdf I think you already missed the chance to sign up for Clovis' Chemistry I for the summer. Ocean Community College offers several online science courses, but they aren't cheap. Other expensive but self-paced options are UNC-Chapel and Oregon State University. Chemistry CLEP - Best Approach - JohnnyHeck - 05-06-2013 Sanantone, how do you come up with this stuff? For the price, that edukan.org looks promising if you are looking for LL courses for grades. Thanks also for pointing out that I should have searched under "main category" to turn up all possible references. I searched first under Gen-ED & Testing and came up with almost zilch. When I went looking at your Tx CC VCT in our discussion for physics, I found Chem I and Chem II being taught one after the other this summer in a time span of just over 1 month each. https://www.vct.org/schedule/syllabus.php?course_id=33720&VCT_Session=55nu25gbk8o6pcq1q1rlhm3hn3# I think to do this you would have to work at it full time and a half with no outside responsibilities. So for me I can't do it. But it's nice to know that at least somewhere someone is thinking outside the box. Good luck on Chem Clep. I won't get to this course till later this year. I'm sure you will have as usual some ourstanding feedback for us all! Chemistry CLEP - Best Approach - sanantone - 05-06-2013 If you're not planning on testing or taking the course until later this year, keep an eye on what New Mexico Junior College and Clovis will be offering. I try not to recommend Texas public schools to those outside of Texas because the non-resident tuition can be high. I learned about several of these colleges through other members of this forum and a "sister" forum. Some of the other stuff I found by obsessively googling. I am not joking when I say I can be obsessive-compulsive. I also think I have ADHD inattentive and they usually hyper focus on subjects of interest even though they can't focus on much else. You'll come to find that most of the people here are either ADHD, introverted, obsessive-compulsive or any combination of the three. LOL Chemistry CLEP - Best Approach - clep3705 - 05-06-2013 Chemistry is difficult. I took inorganic chemistry and organic chemistry for science majors with labs ages ago. That is the preparation that enabled me to just barely pass. I thought the Peterson's practice tests where helpful. Chemistry CLEP - Best Approach - NAP - 05-06-2013 My best wishes to both of you! I'm always happy to see people interested in this exam/subject. Chemistry CLEP - Best Approach - JohnnyHeck - 05-07-2013 Hello Sanantone and all Chemistry Clep wannabes I just discovered that ALEKS has General Chemistry modules here: http://www.aleks.com/independent/students/course_products?cmscache=detailed&detailed=gconsumer3_genchema#gconsumer3_genchema I did the ALEKS Behavioral Statistics, and I got to really know the material. I suppose if you're just ticket-punching it's probably too hard a method if you somehow have an alternate way to cram Chemistry that works for you. But based on that previous course experience I believe that if you score 70%+ on ALEKS Chem you will pass the Clep Chem. At least it's another way to check if your ready. Sanantone, you want to give it a try before me? Chemistry CLEP - Best Approach - NAP - 05-07-2013 As far as I know, nobody on the forum has tried ALEKS to prepare for the CLEP, yet, but I know others would be interested to know how well it works. I thought that I needed to take CLEP Chemistry, so I started doing some research on how to study for it. Although I didn't end up having to take it, I did find a few resources that I thought I would share...they are probably repeats of the great info below, but maybe they would be helpful. I heard from several people that "Chemistry: Concepts and Problems" a Wiley Self-Teaching Guide was very helpful. (Amazon.com: Chemistry: Concepts and Problems: A Self-Teaching Guide (Wiley Self-Teaching Guides) (9780471121206): Clifford C. The Periodic Table . Intro Free University Project - CLEP Exam in General Chemistry CHEMTUTOR Chemistry Study Guides - SparkNotes General Chemistry Online: Home General Chemistry | UC Berkeley Video Course Like I said, I haven't actually tried these, so I have no idea how well they would prepare you, but this is what I gathered from a couple of different sources (IC, Free CLEP Prep). Hope that helps! |
