TESC Natural science/ math help - Elsa9999 - 03-28-2013 Wow I'm so glad to have found this forum! Can any of you helpful tesc pros take a look at my outline for Natural Sciences/ math and give me some pointers? It makes sense to me but that's not saying much . And maybe recommend some easier tests than the ones I have listed?1. GE A. English Req = 6 ⢠Eng WR - 3 ⢠CLEP ENC-101 - 3 B. TESC Natural science/ math help - Yenisei - 03-28-2013 It's really not clear in some cases what you took, e.g., for Chemistry and Physics at the 300 level, what you mean by "Micro 440" and "Stats 300", plus you can't use both the Biology and Natural Science CLEPs in the Area of Study. If by "A and P", you mean "Anatomy & Physiology", those are 200 level courses at TESC, and you need 18 UL (300 and 400 level) as well as 12 in a single discipline. I assume here that "Micro" refers to Microbiology. I am sure others have even better suggestions and (always be sure to verify everything in writing with a TESC advisor), but here are mine: Gen Ed Nat Sci& Math requirements: Stick all but two 100 level exams/courses here, and only use UL Intro to Computing DSST 3credits Statistics 4 credits (I am assuming they are semester credits for an introductory stats course) Biology CLEP 6 credits The additional credit in this scenario rolls over in elective credit Nat Sci & Math Area of Study Natural Sciences CLEP (assuming they are not considered duplicative to the Biology CLEP and/or won't cause you to go over 18 credits for BIO): 6 credits LL 100 level Microbiology 4 credits UL A&P 6 credits LL Liberal Arts Capstone 3 credits UL MIS DSST 3 credits UL ECE Pathophysiology 3 credits UL One Ohio U CBE option- e.g., Bioethics or Biology and the Future of Man 3 credits UL TECEP Network Technology 3 credits UL Environment & Humanity DSST 3 credits LL If the chemistry and physics courses you took were UL, then by all means apply them to the Area of Study UL requirements. TESC Natural science/ math help - Elsa9999 - 03-28-2013 Thank you for your feedback. I guess I'm a little confused about the area of study portion, I know that I need 18 upper level units, but I thought tesc took classes from community college that are 300 or 400 as upper level? I'm also not clear on the "12 in one area" part. You mentioned that I cant use both clep biology and natural science, do I have it with anatomy and physiology (10 upper level credits) and human disease? To clarify the list below, I have not taken any exams yet, I have taken all of the other classes listed and tried to fill in the exams that I thought might complete my degree. Thank you so much for your help with this, I was so excited that someone read my post! I'm a dork, I know! 1. GE A. English Req = 6 ⢠English WR - 3 ⢠CLEP ENC-101 - 3 B. One more question, Yenisei- My anatomy and physiology are both 400 level and worth 5 each and the physics and chem are 300 level, so I can use those, right? So could the area of study look like this? Microbiology 4 credits UL A&P 10 credits UL Liberal Arts Capstone 3 credits UL Physic's 300 3 credits UL Chem 305 5 credits UL One Ohio U CBE option- e.g., Bioethics or Biology and the Future of Man 3 credits UL TECEP Network Technology 3 credits UL Environment & Humanity DSST 3 credits LL You're awesome! Thanks! TESC Natural science/ math help - Yenisei - 03-29-2013 Some CC courses can be UL with TESC, but A&P courses are not- unless something has changed they are 200 level courses. What were the titles of your physics and chemistry courses? The MIS DSST is a lot easier than one of those Ohio CBE options. In the Area of Study, at least 12 credits (and no more than 18) must be in a single discipline. TESC Natural science/ math help - Elsa9999 - 03-29-2013 Yenisei Wrote:Some CC courses can be UL with TESC, but A&P courses are not- unless something has changed they are 200 level courses. The titles are conceptual physics 310 and Intro to Chemistry 2A, not sounding very upper level. Do you have any suggestions for the upper level in a single subject? I am in an ultrasound program and have taken a physics of ultrasound class, would that fit? What is MIS DSST? Is it upper level? I was offered a job in a hospital, but need to be registered in ultrasound by Jan 14. It's means I have to have any bachelors degree in enough time to send it in to the registering body to apply to take the registry exam and pass by jan 14. Do you think I have a chance in heck of getting this done by say, October 13'? The good part is that the job is sat and sun, so I'm free to test all week! Should I just forget the natural sciences route and go for liberal studies? The only problem there is that I don't really have that many artsy type courses, but I guess if their not super hard I could take exams for them? I'm also worried about tesc and the reports about them taking forever to graduate you. Is excelsior faster if you tested out for the LA credits and took the capstone? You've been so helpful, can I pick your brain some more? Thanks again! TESC Natural science/ math help - Yenisei - 03-31-2013 Always verify everything posted on this forum with an advisor, but I'd be shocked if either the chemistry or phyiscs courses you cited would be considered UL at TESC. I have no idea if the "Physics of Ultrasound" would be accepted in the Area of Study, and if so, whether it would be UL- check with an advisor. The MIS DSST is UL. Personally, I would rather have the Nat Sci& Math degree than a BALS. YMMV. Right now, I'd suggest using the blueprint I posted in Post#3, but maybe substituting those chemistry and physics courses for the Nat Sci CLEP in the Area of Study. TESC Natural science/ math help - sanantone - 03-31-2013 You might also want to check into the ECE for Genetics. That could be UL. The ECE for Bioethics would be easier and cheaper than the Ohio exam. These haven't been confirmed, but you can always ask. Sanantone's BA in Natural Sciences and Mathematics - Degree Forum Wiki TESC Natural science/ math help - Yenisei - 04-01-2013 While it never hurts to ask an advisor at TESC, according to Excelsior, the Basic Genetics ECE is LL: Error: need cookies. The Bioethics ECE is, according Excelsior, an UL exam, but they also have it listed under humanities credit, so, again, be sure to clear with an advisor that it will be accepted in the Nat Sci & Math Area of Study before testing. |
