Another milestone reached! - sanantone - 12-21-2012

I just completed the 12 credits needed for a graduate certificate in Terrorism and Counterinsurgency Studies at Angelo State University. Now, I just need to finish the two courses and oral comprehensive exam I have left for a Master of Security Studies with a concentration in Regional Studies. I didn't think I had the focus to get this far. If it weren't for TESC, I probably wouldn't have.

I started on January 17, 2012 and should be finished with the coursework in the beginning of March 2013. I have yet to set a date for my oral comprehensive exam, which will be done by webcam. Technically, I won't graduate with the master's until May 2013. There are only 3 graduation dates per year. I made the December one for my graduate certificate. One of my classmates finished in 12 months, but he took on a heavy load. I stuck with just taking two courses per 8 weeks. As a Texas resident, the program is just under $11,000. I did end up getting a Texas grant for almost $1,000 further reducing the cost. There is a thesis and non-thesis option. I chose non-thesis. LOL.

They also have master's programs for Border Security (it's really just homeland security) and Intelligence. Under Border Security, there is a graduate certificate for Emergency Management.

Thank you. I finally got my act together in summer/fall 2010.

Very cool.

I was in the security field until a few months ago. I now work a different kind of criminal justice job with a local government agency. I'm hoping to get something in the federal government.

I am so relieved! I just finished all of my coursework for my masters degree program. All I have left to do is the oral comprehensive exam, which I'm not worried about. Unfortunately, my degree won't be conferred until May. I really want to start applying to adjunct instructor jobs.
