Last minute trouble, need Penn Foster experience - walternc3 - 11-27-2012 Hi everyone, I'm almost finished with my BSBA from TESC but I ran into a bit of a hitch now that I'm down to my last 4 courses. I started with the BSBA degree plan from LEVI which (Under the Area of Study) uses Advertising and Marketing Communications TECEPs but unfortunately I chickened out at the last minute for the Marketing Communication TECEP and now I'm back in China so I need to choose a different course to put into that slot. I want to do a course through Penn Foster to put in there. The people at Penn Foster aren't very knowledgeable about which of their courses match up with course options in the TESC BSBA degree plan under the (Area of Study: General Management 18 Credits). I'm hoping some people here have run into this problem and/or know what course I can slide in there. Please look at what I have below B. Area of Study: General Management - 18 credits Advertising - TECEP Money & Banking - DSST Management Information Systems - DSST Organizational Behavior - DSST Human Resource Management - DSST ?????????????????????????? From searching the online forum i discovered that the following PennFoster courses are Ace Approved and can be used to fill this void in my plan. Cost Accounting Sales Management Supply Chain Management Anyone know of some other PFC courses that will work? Thank you Last minute trouble, need Penn Foster experience - sanantone - 11-27-2012 It's hard to tell which courses are still ACE-approved. A bunch of courses on the ACE website were just recently changed to say that they expired on 09/30/12. However, someone else on here emailed ACE, which said that Penn Foster's courses are in the process of being renewed. Is Straighterline an option? Straighterline's Managerial Accounting is transcribed as Cost Accounting. You can't expect Penn Foster to tell you how TESC will transcribe your courses. TESC is the place to get that answer. If these courses are still ACE-approved like they were just a couple of months ago, you potentially have a lot of options in addition to the courses you listed above. Compensation Management Corporate Finance Customer Service Employee Benefits Intermediate Accounting I Intermediate Accounting II International Business Labor Relations Marketing Research Merchandise Planning and Buying Retail Management Securities and Investments Training Concepts Last minute trouble, need Penn Foster experience - walternc3 - 11-27-2012 I'm not sure you understand my question. Or maybe I am mistaken. Taken from the student handbook: { B. Area of Study: BSBA in General Management (choose from below) Area #1 Accounting, Area #2 Finance, Area #3 Marketing, Area #4 Management.} I'm looking for Penn Foster courses that fit into the afforementioned area. I'm not looking for general education or business elective courses through Penn Foster of which I am sure there are many. For example, the first item on your list is Compensation Management. That course is not listed under any of the four areas of Accounting, Finance, Marketing, or Management unless I'm missing something or TESC calls it something else. Thanks for trying to help me. Last minute trouble, need Penn Foster experience - sanantone - 11-28-2012 TESC is not going to create an exhaustive list of appropriate courses. Compensation Management is a Human Resources course. Human Resources falls under Management. I don't know if TESC will accept it, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Quote:The above list of subjects is offered as a guide. Other subjects may also be considered appropriate for this area of study.http://www.tesc.edu/business/bsba/General-Management.cfm When I searched the PLA Database for Compensation, I got this: Compensation Administration (HRM-341) 3.00 s.h. Techniques of job analysis and methods of job evaluation to establish base rates in industry, government and non-profit institutions. Current trends in the compensation of hourly and salaried employees, including executives, in the public and private sectors are studied. Last minute trouble, need Penn Foster experience - LaterBloomer - 11-28-2012 Look at my signature block. I've forgotten which PF courses I've taken, but TESC approved all of them for the Areas of Study. Last minute trouble, need Penn Foster experience - sanantone - 11-28-2012 See! This is a great example. I listed most of those courses. Last minute trouble, need Penn Foster experience - walternc3 - 11-29-2012 Just a heads up to anyone reading this. ACE's website in regards to Penn Foster is not up to date right now. I just found out that Financial Management has been renewed for an additional 3 years but the ACE site still shows it as ending 9/30/12. Thanks for your imput guys. Last minute trouble, need Penn Foster experience - agmclsls - 11-29-2012 Curious about the last post regarding Penn Foster's renewal for Financial Management. Where did you hear it was renewed? Reason I ask is that I enrolled in that couse mid-October when ACE was still showing "..... - Present", mere seconds before I sent my Credit Card info to Penn Foster. Fast forward one month, ACE updates their database in NOVEMBER backdating the course expiration at 9/30/2012 (NOT happy about that). So, I called Penn Foster last week and they told me it had been renewed. So next I call ACE and they say something like "no, but we can confirm that we are reevaluating it BUT the process takes up to 6 months....." Long story short, it would be great to hear if someone was able to actually add to their transcript despite what the db is saying because I don't want to wait until possibly end of March for ACE to pick up again and taking the DSST wouldn't be my favorite next option either. Thanks. Last minute trouble, need Penn Foster experience - AlbaTiVo - 11-29-2012 bluk30 posted this update on another thread. Last minute trouble, need Penn Foster experience - walternc3 - 11-29-2012 I heard about it in two places actually. First of them was the link in post #9 of this thread. Second was from an admissions advisor over at Penn Foster. Of course I'm not going to just let them just lead me down the primrose path. I've also sent an email to ACE to confirm that the two classes I'm taking which look expired (Financial Management, Consumer Behavior) are actually current. As soon as I get email confirmation from ACE I'm going to pull the trigger and sign up for those courses. After reading post #8 of this thread I may send ACE one more email confirming that I won't have to wait until the renewal shows up in their registry for the credits to be applied. |
