Humanities CLEP - StarMatt - 11-17-2012

Hey everyone,
I recently found out that I need to pass the Humanities CLEP (it is the only one I can take-I cannot substitute any other exams) by the end of December in order to graduate in Spring. I took a Pearson Practice test to get a baseline and was discouraged to find I only scored a 44. I picked up the REA CLEP book and have started reading. I noticed that by using the REA scoring guidelines I actually would have passed the Pearson practice test! I was just wondering if anyone knew if the Pearson tests were a little harder than the actual test? I still have a few weeks to study and take practice tests so I know I can improve my score. It was just discouraging to see a failing grade. Also I have already searched the threads here, does anyone have any other advice for the Humanities exam? Since I need this to graduate I am just a little stressed out over it. Thanks everyone!

Think of this test as sort of a trivia game. You can actually learn a lot from practice tests, so the more you take the better prepared you'll be.

I took another Peterson test today and did slightly better. I scored a 48 which is obviously still not passing. However, once again when using the REA guidelines I actually passed the test very comfortably. I know that the CLEP scoring guidelines are kept secret, but I was just wondering how I should interpret my Peterson test scores as it is making me very nervous that I am not passing. I was wondering if anyone with experience with the Humanities CLEP could help me out.

I passes the Humanities a couple weeks ago and used instant-cert and Peterson as my two study tools. I took all three tests and the last one three days before my exam. I averaged around 60% on all three tests. I did find the Peterson test had a few questions on the test, but the most important thing was it helped me gauge how my instant cert studying was progressing. The test was very hard, and I got a 54. The material on this forum also provides a ton of study info. So spend a little extra time looking through past postings to get a feel of what to study. Hope that helps and good luck.

48%? If so, that's not too bad. Petersons are generally harder than the real Clep. Take some REA PTs and see how you do.

I'm starting to feel much better about the test. I read the REA book and took an REA test and scored a 69. I will keep studying and take a few more practice tests. The REA one didn't seem nearly as difficult as the Peterson's. But it might be because I read the REA book. Thanks for the advice and encouragement!

Just took another REA test and scored a 61! Looks like I'm getting the hang of this. I guess all I needed was some time to brush up/study! Just a few more practice tests and I'm sure I'll ready!
