My son's degree plan in Social Sciences requires 18 upper level courses. Does the capstone count as one of those and are you absolutely sure? Has anyone actually done this since the capstone requirement is new? Or does he still take 18 hours of upper level in addition to the capstone. I just want to be sure! He is close to finishing and I don't want to make him take more than is necessary. WE just today found out he has to take the capstone Sad. HE is going to be done with his bachelor's while he is still just 17 years old, so we are still excited!

I'm not sure why it wouldn't be. My capstone was a 492 class so it definitely counted as upper credit class.

Also, that is awesome for your son! 17 with a bachelors is nice, I wish I would have know about this sooner.

Yes, it's inside the 18 credits.

Thank you both. That is one bright spot in finding out he has to take the capstone. At least we can cross off one of the other courses.

Hi all, it's been a while. I took a short break from school but now I have to ramp up and finish. I feel really stupid but I can't figure this out. Here's the History section of my old degree plan. Can I use the capstone to replace one of the 3 needed tests/classes? I think the Western Civ I & II OR World History I & II, American History I & II, Non- Western History is messing me up. If I can use the capstone to replace, would you replace the World Conflicts ECE or the Modern Middle East?
History
A. Required courses (15)
Western Civ I 3 DONE
Western Civ II 3 DONE
US History I 3 DONE
US History II 3 DONE
Vietnam War 3 DONE
Civil War and Reconstruction (UL) 3 DONE
Rise and Fall of Soviet Union (UL) 3 DONE
Intro to Modern Middle East (UL) 3 NEEDED
War & Amer Society? 6UL 6 NEEDED
World Conflicts Since 1900 (UL) 3 NEEDED
Also, I'm a little freaked out about it. Just how hard is it, has anyone done it yet?
Thanks!

You need 33 credits including the capstone and you have 33 listed above, so you could take the capstone instead of one of the 3 credit courses. I am assuming you enrolled before 7/1/12 so the capstone is not required for you?

Cool, so I can replace one of those with the capstone?! I haven't enrolled yet so the capstone is required. I thought I'd have to take 3 extra credits so this is good news, thanks.
Does anyone have any advice as to which test to skip? Middle East or World Conflicts? I have the book for Middle East but it seems scary.

Are you a history major? If so, I believe the Modern Middle East is required.

Oh thanks. Sad I thought Soviet Union would count for Non-Western. I think I'm going to take Modern Middle East anyway. Replace the 6 credit War and American Society with both the 3 credit Capstone and Leaders in History. It will save me $800! I can muddle through the Middle East for that kind of savings. Smile
