Questions to Guru's getting a BA at TESC - Barmack - 09-13-2012
Hi,
My Goal is to get a degree Bachelors not a associate one. as fast as possible the reason being I need it for a job and they don't care the degree. since I already have experience they just need it in the books. So I was looking at the TESC website.
Saw 2 degrees im interested in.. however if there is another degree (Bachelors) I could get that would be more wise please tell me. Fast as possible and cheap.
so i'd like to do all of the classes through through credit-by-examination (i.e. CLEP, DSST, TECEP, etc.).
Oh and I'd be doing it as a international student. since I live in Canada so no FEMA for me

Thomas Edison State College: Marketing
those two degrees interest me the most. however it only matters if its a bachelors.

How about BA History at TESC - you can test-out of most of it - I did use FEMA 21credits & 6 cr. history course at TESC to graduate. I started with 10 B&M credits - I graduated in 11 months.

Are you bringing credits to the party or starting from zero? What you already have can make all the difference.
There are exceptions to the no foreigners rule at FEMA http://training.fema.gov/IS/nonus.asp pretty simple really...and worth the trouble as we are talking a year of college credits! Consider joining the IAEM, student membership is less than $100 http://www.iaem.com/about/membership/regions/studentregion/studentregion.htm They can get you into the online FEMA courses. The issue is really a lack of SS#.

Edited to add: IAEM may not be making this easy...I would still call them http://www.iaem.com/certification/generalinfo/IAEMsponsorship.htm The AEM/CEM is difficult to obtain....though as a new student with an interest in perhaps someday pursuing Emergency Management you still have a shot. I would explain you are just getting started and want to try some FEMA IS courses as you consider your new vocation...again, if you need the credits FEMA is just a great way to get them.
And a Liberal Studies degree will be far and away the easiest to test out of. You should be looking at all of the Big 3, though TESC is a great choice.
