Took my first step at TESC -ACESUP's Journey - acesup_11 - 08-31-2012 I am going to be going to TESC. My goal is eventually to get my MBA in Finance or Business.( so far). I just finished getting my Transcripts from my state college I attended back in 2000 sent to them and filled out my online application and paid my $75 dollars. I was wondering if someone could tell me the next steps? Do I start taking cleps? Any help would be appreciated. I also have aol aim and skype if someone would want to help me on that as well. Thanks everyone so far it has been a long first step coming but it will be a great journey. (don't stop believing) sorry couldn't help it Took my first step at TESC -ACESUP's Journey - LaterBloomer - 08-31-2012 First, congratulations! If I'm inferring correctly, you don't have your bachelors yet, right? Have you searched this form for a link to Dcan's wiki? (Search "wiki.") It will provide you with plans that other forum members have used to get degrees from TESC. Since lots of us test extensively, you'll be able to see what CLEPs and DSSTs should meet your degree requirements. Best of luck! Took my first step at TESC -ACESUP's Journey - acesup_11 - 08-31-2012 Ok I signed up for an associates was that right? then I can move on from there? I may be stupid but I found the wiki but dont see where I can find where I shoudl go next. I see there is cleps which sound right but how do I know which ones to take and so on. Took my first step at TESC -ACESUP's Journey - LaterBloomer - 09-02-2012 Since you've applied for TESC, you can see how your previous credits can be used for an ASBA (Associates of Science in Business Administration). (FYI, it can take TESC 20 business days to assess your previous credits.) Log in as a Current Student, and check out Online Student Services. One of the services is Academic Evaluation. Once TESC has evaluated your previous credits, you can click ASBA in the Academic Evaluation. It will show you how TESC sees the credits you've earned fitting into an ASBA. Then, search this forum or go to Dcan's wiki site, and see what tests folks took to fill in your blanks. IMPORTANT: We share our experiences. We tell you what worked for us. It's important that you realize that the only thing that matters is what the Registrar's Office of your university says, not us, not someone in Admissions, not your BFF. Catalogs and requirements change from year to year. What worked for one forum member as an enrolled student on June 30, 2012, may not work for you if you enrolled after that date. Also, from what I've gotten from this forum, the REGISTRAR's office doesn't even talk to you unless you're an enrolled student (paid tuition) rather than an admitted student (paid the $75 admission fee). Many of us don't enroll until MOST of the tests or courses are completed. If you decide to enroll before (almost) testing out, you have to pay another year of tuition if you can't test out or finish courses in that year. I hope that this helps. Good luck. Took my first step at TESC -ACESUP's Journey - acesup_11 - 09-24-2012 UPDATE: I have finally got an email back from TESC that they have finished my evaluation. What is the next steps can someone help me out. I want to start studying and taking tests. If I am readind this information right it looks like I need 48 credits. I also have a question. If I got a bad grade in a course can I opt to take it again to get a higher grade through clep? Thank you again. Also if anyone would like to help me and feels that talking over skype, aim or any other portal would be easier and faster please let me know. Thank you again and have a great day. I am trying to read the evaluation but how do I know what courses to take and what cleps to take to test out of them? I want to start studying and taking tests as soon as possible. Got my transcripts evaluated what is next? - cooperalex2004 - 09-25-2012 If you post your eval here then you will get a lot of great ideas from people. As for the interpretation of your eval, you might like this link: http://www.tesc.edu/documents/Degree_Planning_Handbook_12.09.pdf That explains some details on what is categorized in each area and talks about what the codes all mean. To answer your other question, yes you can repeat a course, the problem will become which grade is kept. The policy states that the higher grade is kept but lets say you have a "C" you want to replace with a Pass/Fail exam. I'm not sure that would work since a "CR" (Pass) isn't technically above a "C". You might want to ask the school that question if you are going to do it. If you don't want to post your whole eval, then post what you've completed and which areas are missing. If you are missing Humanities credits and are even remotely good with reading and interpretation, then the first exam you should take is Analyze and Interpret Literature (CLEP), it is six credits and considered by most to be easy. For ideas on where exams fit you'll want to check out the TESC website for credit by exam or look in the college catalog. Here are the links for the website version: CLEP - College-Level Exam Program DANTES If you need any electives then start working on FEMA credits too. Search this forum and try to find a recent list of which exams are accepted. They are FREE to take and transfer to TESC and some other schools. Humanities - Need six credits: -Take Analyze and Interpret Literature (CLEP), it will satisfy both open courses (six credits) Macro/Micro: -Take either Macro or Micro exams Social Sciences: -Pick a course from CLEP or DSST that fits or take Social Sciences and History which would fulfill both this opening and your opening for Gen Ed Elective (it is six credits!) Mathematics: -Take Algebra from Aleks.com, get 70% on an assessment either right away or after study and you'll get three credits for this requirement. They charge $20 / month plus you have to pay ACE to transfer the credit Nat Sci / Math: -Take a Nat Sci or Math exam or take another ALEKS course (such as Intermediate Algebra which is actually lower level than college algebra) -or take a computer exam (they count as Nat Sci/Math) General Ed Electives: -Take the advice from above about Social Sciences and History and this will be met, or take any Humanities, Social Science, or Nat Sci/Math course Principles of Managerial Accounting -Check out Straighterline (Transfer College Credits To Thomas Edison State College (TESC) - StraighterLine) Business Law -CLEP Intro Business Law Prin of Management -CLEP Prin. of Mgmt Intro to Marketing (Not Started) -CLEP Prin. of Mktg ================================================================================ Business Electives (6sh) > Complete 6 sh from accounting, banking, business, computer > applications, computer information systems, finance, > management, hotel/motel/restaurant management, insurance, > marketing, operations management, public administration, > real estate law, retailing management and human resource > management. Check out Straigherline again or some DSST exams, there are dozens of ways to get these credits. Need more ideas? Others will give you more ideas from other sources, I just love CLEP and DSST so I advise those whenever possible. Once you enroll the school's advisors can help too, they will tell you recommendations and of course help plan courses at TESC if you choose to take them there. Got my transcripts evaluated what is next? - acesup_11 - 09-27-2012 Thank you so much... I know this may sound dumb but do I just search the forum for study materials or do I have to google the clep subject and buy books? Thanks so much again |
