Advice for second essay of English Composition tomorrow, struggling. - bo0giemonsta - 08-16-2012 I'm having a really hard time structuring my second essay. Anyone have any strategies? For my outline should I pick out quotes from the different articles presented and take a stance on them that I can hopefully back with evidence? The time limit really throws me. I feel like I have to vomit to produce content and after its all done it seems to stray from the thesis. Is just paraphrasing or quoting the articles 3 times max enough? Perhaps once in each of my three body paragraphs. There are not many practice prompts for this one. The Peterson ones seem horrible; I really hope they do not resemble the real thing. In all the resources I've found, the examples of an essay scored a 6 make me feel really stuppppppppppid. I've cured my fears over the first essay. The Spark Notes "Fast food Essay" resource really helped me, but this second one is a different animal for some reason. Any recommendations on how I could practice tonight or tomorrow morning? The specific exam feedback forum is lacking on this one = (. I scored a 66, 74, and a 76 on the Peterson's. Maybe if I do alright on the multiple choice and the first essay I can completely butcher the second one and be fine. Thanks! If I can make it through this one it will be all down hill. Hopefully I will pass and it will get scored and sent to Tesc before October! Advice for second essay of English Composition tomorrow, struggling. - BIPolarGuy - 08-17-2012 There were a few essays that I had to go over on the multiple choice test, I used those for quick ideas on transitions and as refreshers on apa style citing. The refrence articles they gave me on my second essay was fairly short and easy to cite.On my test, the topics were pretty general and easy to choose a side. I didnt realize when i went in that i had to choose a side, I thought i had to be nuetral.. But it does want you to choose a side. Personally, it was just like the first essay, with the only difference that you had some extra free information to use from their articles to fill space ![]() Good luck tomorrow! remember... gooozfrabah!!!breathe!!! I will remember to see if I can get some transition ideas from the multiple choice too! Advice for second essay of English Composition tomorrow, struggling. - Westerner - 08-17-2012 I just took this test today. Praying that I did well! Some advice I came across that was really helpful for the 2nd essay: pick a side, then bring out the opposing side in the beginning and refute it throughout the rest of the essay. It much easier to plan out this essay because all the info is given to you. Just be sure not to make the whole essay a paraphrase of the source. Advice for second essay of English Composition tomorrow, struggling. - bo0giemonsta - 08-20-2012 Took the test Friday as well. I feel that I at least scored a 50. My second essay was spot on with what Greg said. I think I screwed up the citing a bit though, because I didn't prepare how to give credit if the authors names weren't given for the sources, substituted with the "title". The multiple choice section was what surprised me the most. 50 minutes 50 questions and I used every single minute for every single question. The reading passages where very long and a lot of them I had to actually speed read the whole thing to understand the context of the passage so I could answer the question. It also felt like the whole test besides the essays was just reading passages too. Maybe 10 questions of identifying grammar errors in sentences without long passages. Didn't have any time to spare like my practice tests.
