SMART Transcript - michigan0626 - 04-23-2012

I just got my password and took a look at my SMART Transcript from when I was in the Marine Corps. When I click the Summary of my unofficial transcript I counted 41 credits. This does not include the 15 credits that are not recommended for ACE approval. Realistically, if I have an official copy sent to Excelsior, how many could posibly be utilized towards one of there degrees?

Also, what is everyone else's military credit results. List the amount that you earned from military training and schools, and how many a college actually articulated towards a degree. Thank you.

I would like to know more about this, too.

I would think the worst case scenario would be that they would apply toward the free elective/applied professional section of any EC degree.

I wonder if all of the extra credits would count towards the CJ Homeland Security degree.

SMART Transcript - Jankra - 04-24-2012

A number of them will be redundant. I had all of my free electives covered as well as a good number of general courses, ie... Speech, photography, etc... I also ended up with 8 upper level credits which was a big bennie for the BSBA track via TESC. 45 credits in total were applied while my smart showed over 60. I got good advice, via PM, from a few members here and moved forward with a plan.

I would have gotten more credits if I had went for a Liberal Arts degree, but I didn't want that. You may have different goals.

Send them in for an eval and knock out some low hanging fruit CLEPs while waiting. I also suggest SL and knocked out 15 of them in a few months. Well worth the money.

Good luck.

GO BLUE: You have to contact a counselor from Excelsior. I am currently taking classes with them and switched degree plans to a liberal arts degree to maximize the credits. If you are trying to get a more "specific" degree the credits go from being a LOT to being a LITTLE. I am not sure where you are at education wise, but, if I were you and starting out fresh in college, go the liberal route, have the counselor hook you up with max creds, then switch degree plans after meeting the minimal credit expectation with the school, I think it is 12/year. Also, start small, get on thier A.A. lib arts, having two degrees is better than one, my opinion.

I received 26 credits towards my degree from them, FYI. I had 128 TOTAL on my SMART, to give you an idea.

Good luck devil.

MICHIGAN- Just noticed you are in Central FL? If so, contact Ken O'Neal, located in Jacksonville, FL NAS Jacksonville. koneal@excelsior.edu he is retired coast guard E-7 He will hook you up.

Tell him HM1 Holcomb referred you. I dont get a NAM for referring you or 100.00 bucks. Just passing some good info. Remember, MAX creds means you have to have non-specific degree. It only makes sense. Your SMART transcript EATS up electives etc...GOOD LUCK!

More than likely Straighterline.com. I have had a massive amount of military training and most applied to free electives and were copies of others. You'll never know until you send it in and see where they fall.

So, try to use max credits to get a liberal science degree. then branch off and attempt to go after the bachelors I really want?

SMART Transcript - JBjunior - 04-25-2012

I completed my degree at TESC. The benefit to the liberal arts degree is that it will allow more free electives and a wide range of courses to fill requirements. I still had to do a ton of CLEP and coursework to complete the degree. As far as free electives, you can complete all of those in one weekend with FEMA courses depending on what school you attend. If you want the quickest route to a degree, most of the time that is a liberal arts degree regardless of experience simply because of the nature of it.
