Crashed and burned on Math General.... - highlanderburial - 04-30-2007 This will be my second time taking this test. I swear it looked totally different from the first time I took it. Score the first time: 49 Score this time: 49 I am sooooo frustrated I could kick a cute puppy! Has anyone taken a clep or dantes more than twice???? I am looking into Statistics and Fund. Of Algebra to try and make an end run around this one. On the flip side, I did pass Intro to World Religions with a 57. Unfortunately it was the Math Clep that's the last cornerstone for my AAS and necesary for my 4 year degree. God that subject is my Achilles tendon!!! Crashed and burned on Math General.... - mapalo - 04-30-2007 My heart goes out to you on this one, I am thinking of just taking a class at a community college. Will Clep Algebra fulfill the math requirement? Crashed and burned on Math General.... - studyhard - 04-30-2007 Gosh, I would be EXTREMELY frustrated too. You have my sympathies!! But don't kick the puppy. hilarious What sources did you use to study it? I took 4 years of math in high school and used a great curriculum....Saxon math. Incremental, good explanations, pretty easy to understand, very solid. A lot of math books are exasperatingly confusing but Saxon is much more coherent. Do you take the practice test in the CLEP practice book before tests? That's supposed to give you an indicator of how you'll do on the real thing. If you get just half or under half right, it's a sign to keep studying. So sorry about this.....I advise you to go drown your sorrows in a nice creamy coolatta from Dunkin Donuts. That's what I usually do. hilarious Crashed and burned on Math General.... - Librevore - 04-30-2007 So sorry to hear it Highlander. You've worked so hard for this one. There has to be a way. Maybe a local community class like mapalo is thinking of or that course that Shoto took or...? Whatever you do just don't give up! Crashed and burned on Math General.... - beckysharp - 05-01-2007 My sincere condolences Highlander. I really feel for you on this one. I never even had the courage to try the Math General so I've been slugging away on Penn Foster Tech Math 1. I don't recommend it. My daughter suggests Contemporary Math. I don't know if you can find one or they'll accept it, but might be worth a try. Wish I'd gone bricks and mortar route. Wasted three months! If interested, look for Penn Foster College in the "search" area and you will find some help. Good Luck! I broke down today, got up at 0430 to cram (I mean study), and made my way to the local CC to sit for the math Accuplacer exam. I scored a 119 on the basic algebra and a 45 on the college math, which was enough for me to enroll in college algebra. It's a short term (8 wks), so it shouldn't be too bad. After algebra, it's on to precalc or plane trig (another 8wks), and then business calc. I originally planned on CLEPing my way through, but after 2 yrs of sporadic studying, and no math credits to show, I caved. I considered the PF option, but didn't want to chance the credits not being accepted should I pursue another degree through a local B&M institution. Best of luck and don't give up. Crashed and burned on Math General.... - highlanderburial - 05-03-2007 Thanks for the support. I guess if you have to bomb a clep you always hope it's a "crash and burn" not a near miss like a 49. I probably will take this one again in 5 months, just because (quoting Ricardo Montalban from Star Trek II) "It tasks me!!!!!". In the mean time, I am going to try a new direction with both statistics and the algebra clep. For study materials, I focused primarily on the Petersons Clep book, with good old fashioned pen and paper. I didn't really hit the IC as hard as I should have, and as a lesson to everyone, just because you have taken a test before, the next time you take one it may be completely different, so don't use your memory to focus your study efforts. Hopefully I will knock out this requirement with one of the two tests listed above, but even so I firmly intend to take it again, just out of spite.... Has anyone taken a clep/dantes/ece test more than twice here???? Thanks again everyone! -HB |
