Please help me w/ my TESC BA Communications degree plan - Snickerdoodle - 02-07-2012 I'm thinking about the AA General Studies and/or BA Communications at TESC. So far they've accepted me, but I'm still waiting on the academic evaluation. I would reeeeeeally appreciate it if someone could take a look at my tentative degree plans for both degrees and give me some input. I'm familiar with the various methods of earning credit and such, but I'm not sure how some of my credits would be classified or distributed. Like most ppl, I'm hoping for lots of testing and as little waste of time and effort possible. Attached are my degree plans. The tests in blue are stuff I've finished. The majority of the Gen. Ed. are CLEP credits. Please note that I do not have enough UL credit...and I'm dry of ideas on how to replace/move around stuff to earn some more. I do not have accounting/finance/business bkground, so I can't consider those UL exams (unless someone can tell me about the super-easy ones that you can study for just watching the news ;D ). Perhaps the DSST history exams? Anyway, I love this forum, been learning a huge amount from you guys...now I have put all my test-taking skills and credits to work and earn an actual degree. TIA for all your help!!! Snickerdoodle Please help me w/ my TESC BA Communications degree plan - alleycat - 02-07-2012 Just looked at your BA plan. You cannot place Prin Of Mkt and Prin of Management under General Electives. Those would be free electives. Because they are business course and unless you are getting a business degree they are only allowed under free electives. Also DDST Religion and Human Growth and Development do not fit under Natural Sciences. Religion is a Humanities credit and Human Growth is a SS (social science) credit. You had Bio listed under Natural Science which is correct. Is that the Clep Bio exam? If so it is worth 6 credits not 3 credits like you have it listed. You might want to look into taking the DSST Intro to Computers to fill out your Natural Science section. You also have all of your free electives listed as CC courses. If you do not already have all 27 credits done through a CC already you might want to look into filling that section up with FEMA exams. Please help me w/ my TESC BA Communications degree plan - Snickerdoodle - 02-07-2012 Thanks alleycat!! Yeah, I know, Religion, Human Growth & Dev. have nothing to do with natural science....but I had no idea where to stick them in. I'm very glad for the reminder that CLEP Biology is 6 credits---forgotten that. I'll look into the DSST Intro to Computers--I'll have to research about how easy (or not easy) that is. Yes, my free electives are all taken up with too many CC credits which can't be applied to the major itself or Gen. Ed., unfortunately. Still, I need the Principles of Mktg. and Mgt. for the UL credit, so I have to take some extra stuff. Anyway, thanks for all your help!! My only question left is: What can I take for UL credit? Please help me w/ my TESC BA Communications degree plan - cooperalex2004 - 02-07-2012 CLEP Info Systems & Business Applications is worth the same as DSST Intro to Computing so you can choose either one. The DSST is regarded as easier by most (I took both) but since I see you've taken a bunch of CLEP exams maybe you'd want that one instead. You might want to look at DSST Technical Writing if you are a good writer since it is cheaper and quicker than a TECEP would be. I can't say whether it is easier or not though. I'm also waiting for a review of my credits for the same Communication degree at TESC that you are so I'm sure we'll be talking back and forth. One other change to your degree plan: -College Math (CLEP) is worth 6 credits Please help me w/ my TESC BA Communications degree plan - Snickerdoodle - 02-08-2012 Yeah, writing is one of my strengths. I wasn't aware of the DSST Technical Writing. So with 6 credits from College Math & 6 credits from Biology, do I still need a computer course? I only need 12 credits, & TESC told me that the computer course isn't a must. Definitely KIT, @cooperalex. I'd love to hear about your experience.Do you mind posting your own degree plan? I'm wondering what courses TESC likes to apply to the main area of study. I had thought my CC courses (visual comm.) would apply, but according to TESC, that doesn't, no explanation offered. That's why I turned to BYU & TECEPs to fill that up. Thanks so much for your help! Please help me w/ my TESC BA Communications degree plan - cooperalex2004 - 02-08-2012 Since I am waiting on my evaluation I can only guess, but I have a different mix of credits as well. I should only need 12 credits toward the major, but my biggest issue is trying to match the general ed requirements from my AA to fulfill TESC's requirements. For example, with the degree plan listed I will graduate with an AA from my community college, yet the credits don't match up for English Comp, Math, or Social Sciences. Here in Minnesota you take 4 credits of english comp, 3 credits of math OR logic, and the rest is fulfilled though the "Minnesota Transfer Curriculum". In any case see the attachment. Those are where the courses should line up, but like I said the gen eds are going to be mess due to the conflicting requirements. I'm not even going to guess on the upper level credits yet so I left that blank. All of the courses listed are complete or in progress this semester. Please help me w/ my TESC BA Communications degree plan - Snickerdoodle - 02-09-2012 I see. It's always tricky lining everything up. But you're definitely way ahead of me already! I noticed that you've applied Interpersonal Comm. and Mass Comm. to your humanities credits. I realize that you probably needed it for your gen. ed., but if you can find out sooner or later, does TESC allow those courses to apply to the main area of study? I would ask them myself, but since I haven't started my course in Mass Comm. yet, I'm afraid they won't take my question too kindly. (At least that's my experience so far with asking TESC about courses that are "up in the air.") Be sure to let everyone know when you've got it all official!! I'm still anxiously waiting for my own evaluation.....Thanks! Please help me w/ my TESC BA Communications degree plan - Snickerdoodle - 02-13-2012 Just want to post my revised degree plans. Still working on the UL credit. Please help me w/ my TESC BA Communications degree plan - Snickerdoodle - 02-14-2012 I added these exams for UL credit. TECEP MAR-323 Advertising (3) (UL) DSST MAN331-DE Human Resource Management (3) (UL) DSST MAN311-DE Organizational Behavior (3) (UL) I've checked the specific exam feedback section, but there's precious little especially for the first two exams. I only read enough to surmise that they're pretty easy...but if anyone else out there has taken these, what did you think? Please help me w/ my TESC BA Communications degree plan - cooperalex2004 - 02-14-2012 I thought the UL credits had to be in your major area, in this case for you and I that is Communications. I guess we'll find out soon since my eval will have many non-communication UL credits coming into it. |
