College Composition - judel5 - 02-07-2012

hi guys,
I am a final year student (graduating in may) and for some reason I delayed College Composition until now. I took the CLEP last month and had a painful 49 Sad (that's one "whole" point short of passing). I was considering taking the College Composition Modular. Does any one know if this is even allowed? Some sources suggest that it is and some say that it is not. Not sure what to do here but I sure would like to be done this may.

If anybody has had an experience similar to this please share....

thanks..

J.

Depends on if you need 3 or 6 credits - Based on TESC's catalog, Modular is 3 credits and College Comp is 6 credits. How about Straighterline?

I can only get 3 credits because that's all my school grants. I was given an override to take the second part the English (i.e. 102). Here's the deal though: I called the CLEP customer service today and asked if I could take the English Composition Modular after having failed the College Composition. The Customer Service Rep. said that I couldn't. He then said that he "believed" I couldn't because I had already taken the College Composition. I then asked him what the similarities between the two were (and differences by the way), and he didn't even know. He just said that they were "two different exams, period!"

Has anyone ever heard about this before? Is this something that I should pursue further? Please anybody out there who has been able to take both exams in less than 6 months, let me know. I'd be grateful...

I just noticed at my testing center today that one of the paragraphs on the paper you sign before taking a test states that in some cases you can retest after 90 days, but you have to file some kind of official request form, get it approved, then take it to the test center. I just glanced at it, so I don't remember how to do it exactly, but maybe CLEP or even your testing center can help you. (I only noticed because I was afraid of failing and considered asking about the 90 day retake request)

Is English Composition even offered now? If you can't take College Composition, can you take Analyzing and Interpreting Literature? Does your school give credit for DSST exams? If so, could you substitute technical writing?

If you can't test out of English, you could take English comp online from Adam State College in Colorado and be done with it before May.

If your university will allow you to earn the credits for College Composition Modular, you should certainly be allowed to take it. That exam is not the same exam at all. The first of the "pre-test screens" (as I call them) states that you cannot have taken the exact same titled exam within the past 6 months and that if you do not pass that exam you must wait the full 6 months before taking again. College Composition and College Composition Modular are NOT the same titled exams.

Also, as Lyanne mentioned, yes, your university is allowed to contact CLEP and grant their "permission" for you to retake in under the 6 months time period. I believe they need to fax (or mail) some form to them so that your score will not get voided by their computer system.
